Well, now that Romac/ROllmaster has gone away, I'm without a good idea for a timing chain.

My magnum seems to go through them pretty quickly. I'll spend money (though I'd rather not spend gear drive/timing belt money).

Car sees a pretty significant number of track passes every year.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

Steve

I like Cloyes. They make the tensioner for Mopar anyway.

I do run a tensioner (the Mopar one).

Well, the Rollmaster lasted longer than the others by a ways, but I bet one of the regular $50.00 deals would get me about half a season. They really are crappy. Not sure if there's something about the Magnum that works them harder or not but they stretch like crazy.

Oh and for the record, Rollmaster was bought out by JP. They are still being made.

I have this one in my stroker, so far so good:

Elgin PRO STOCK TRUE ROLLER TIMING SET
ELGIN PRO STOCK # SS-3103
CHRYSLER / MOPAR SMALL BLOCK 273, 318, 340, 360ci V8 ENGINES

cloyes has racing sets too for high rpms but they cost like $145 :/

you could call them maybe they will give you a racer discount

I've thought about it. My engine builders have always told me I don't want to be putting all those harmonics through the valvetrain.

Considering the valvetrain problems I've been fighting already, I don't really want to chance it.

I would ask others here who run a gear set their opinion, I know they make more noise than a roller chain. They wouldn't make them if they didn't work.

I always have heard the harmonics story too.....but I said something about that in a thread here and was french fried so maybe it's not so much of a problem.

A friend uses the Milodon Gear Drive in his 408 and it is a nice unit. NOT CHEAP either but nice..

It's been through several 6800rpm passes on the drags and some fun on the street to. Been on there since '05 and never had an issue with it in anyway.

As far as timing chains, I like Cloyes and Roll master.

I've got the Summit Billet Roller in 3-4 with tensioners. No problems even with 10K of mixed street and race use.

That is what I use. I haven't seen much wear ever, but I'm running a pretty much stock 340/273.

I don't want to run an iron gear with the hydraulic roller cam in the magnum.

I've had cheap ones before, and they stretch fast in this car. I make a gigantic mess every time I drain the coolant, so I'm trying to keep it to a minimum this year. haha.

I vote for Cloyes. Always fit nice and last. Have tried other true rollers that had to much play to start with, Edelbrock for example. I do have a Mancini chain I have not yet tried.
