I have a '64 Dart Convertible and swaped to 14" wheels. It is a long tedious process. I'll try to cut to the chase.

I installed 14" Dodge Cornet full covers and they just keep flying off.

I want to go to poverty caps.

The Back wheels are 14" 5by4.5 lug pattern. They have 4 nubs where the caps fit on. What diameter poverty caps fit?
The Front wheels are 14" 5by 4 small lug pattern. they have three nubs.................What diameter poverty cap fit?

Are they the same diameter?

Thank you, any advice is more then welcome!

Steve

The 5x4.5 bolt circle will depend on what year they are.
Generally speaking, early to mid '60s wheels (generally sourced from B bodies) take a hubcap that's almost 10" O.D.- approx. 9 1/2" I.D.
Late 60s and later wheels take a hubcap approx. 9" O.D.- and are the same size as ALL A body steel wheel centers- both 13 and 14", and take the same size poverty cap.
As far as your full wheel covers falling off, remember these things have had 50-60 years of being pounded on and pried off of wheels, some are bound to be loose. Try working your way around the spring tabs with a channel lock and tweak them out a bit to restore some tension.

Thank you for the helpful information.

As you can tell from my descriptions the wheels are somewhat different. hard to get an accurate diameter measurement by measureing the center wheel hubs.

It looks like a hit or miss project, especially from Ebay.

My tape measure measurement look like 9". Just ordered an inexpensive 12" caliper.

Thank youagain.

4 nubs is ford steelies i believe, not sure if the hub caps will interchange.
Chrysler has four nubs on the BBP 14s, '68 ish and up. They take the 9" cap.
These are post- '73 A body for example:

Post '67 B body are similar.

'67 and earlier (at least B bodies, not sure on C bodies) are like this:

Three nubs, and they take the 10" cap.
There could be variations, Mopar is good with that. But these are what I am aware of.
No need to go overboard with calipers and such- a tape measure is all that is needed and it will be glaringly obvious which is which- there are only two possible sizes of poverty caps.

Bout 9" I got it caught in my zipper after measuring. You can thank me later.

Here are pics of 2 of my wheels. orange one is a 15x5.5 and has 3 knobs. The 1 with the tire is 14x6 and has 4 knobs. Both take a 9-inch dog dish cap. I will be using the red 1 on the front of my dart and the 14 inch for a roll around. Both are bbp wheels.

Thanx for the pics!

The wheels look similar to the configurations on my Dart. Four nubs on the back rims (but in 14" dia.) and 3 nubs on the front.
The measurments taken with a 12" caliper and all the pics given, I'm reasonably sure that they all take 9" poverty caps . Thanx to you and all the advice given.

On a side note, I discovered the reason I have been having trouble mounting full caps.
The cause has nothing to do with the steel rims, but the hubcaps themselves.
The caps need to have oblong holes that enable the valve stems to slant inwards, providing room for the cap to slip far enough into rim to seat properly on the rim.

So now I can switch any full caps, or poverty caps, to my hearts desire. As long as the full caps have an oblong valve stem hole. (not just a perfect round hole)
Obviously 9" povertys have no such problem.

Thanx again to all for solving a small, but perplexing problem!

Steve

I'll post pics when the swapping is completed and the rain stops.
