I had one that looked suspicious and did what I could to clean and paint. I put it on the car and filled it with new fluid, drove it and cycled it a few times. I then sucked out the nasty fluid with a turkey baster, which could have been in the gear, which had been sitting for sometime as welI. I did that a couple times until it looked clean. I spent a couple weeks driving it around and noticed there was a leak. I used the turkey baster to replace the fluid with some Lucas power steering fluid with stop leak. After driving it a few times it was all good and still is after driving a couple times a week for proobly 6 month now. The Lucas products all work great.
