Ref 68 GTS: I'll ask the off the wall question: Has anyone pulled a steering gear from the front side. I am not thrilled with dropping the starter, center link, clutch pivot arm or header. My hooker header has a slip tube for the front pipe and it will come out if I raise the block. I'm thinking, if I unbolt the rest of the header from the block and the muffler pipe, raise the driver's side of the block, rotate the header in place, i'll gain enough clearance to remove the gear after the pitman arm is dropped. Thoughts? Thanks in advance, Steve

An update for those interested: I was able to remove the steering gear from the top side. Raised the left side of the engine one inch, removed the front header pipe, removed the remaining header bolts and had just enough clearance to get it out. Didn't have to remove the header, starter, center link or clutch pivot. If it wasn't for the front slip fit pipe it would not have happened.
