So putting the 1970 duster back together and only part I didn't replace was power steering pump. And of coarse it leaks. Stopped by NAPA and picked one up for duster with V-8. Took old unit off motor and unit had a press on pulley. One from NAPA set up for bolt on pulley. Now what? Are pumps available with press on pully? Has the one on the car been swapped out with who the hell knows? Just wondering what anyone knows about this. Thanks in advance.

There are several types of pump it could be. You need to know what you have before replacing it. The Chrysler pump had a press on pulley. I think the saginaw came both ways. Post a pic of the pump.

Does it have an oval filler neck or a round one? Oval is Saginaw and round one is Federal around that year.

Saginaw is totally different, I believe they have a triangular shaped plastic reservoir

The seals are easy to change if you decide to go that route

The Saginaw pump changed from a bolt on pulley in the early years to a press on pump in the 70's. They also changed some parts of the pump over to metric later in the 70's or 80's. The pumps all look the same and the rebuilders mix and match parts so it can be a challenge when you buy rebuilt stuff.

To Andy's point the "Can Ham" Saginaw can come with either bolt on or press on. The "Banjo" shaped Saginaw (looks similar to the Federal/Thompson/TRW) should only be bolt on with a key way. I think ~1974/75 was the press on change for Saginaw.

We need to know what pump you have.

Not to hijack the thread but I’m having a similar problem. Are these 2 pulleys interchangeable and I’m not sure how my pulley tool will work on these since there’s no tapped hole in the shaft?
