Back in the 80's I ran 273 rockers on my 13:1 340 with a 585 lift cam & Crane triple valve springs. Spun the motor to 7800rpm regularly. Bent lots of pushrods, but never broke a rocker. Save your money & just get good locking adjusters.
I've had proforms on my cuda for 4 years now without a problem. I'm running .550 lift and stiff Lunati springs and I rap it out to 6-7000 rpm all the time. Cheap doesn't always mean bad just my 2 cents worth also I have had other proform stuff that sux like 2 rev limiters that were junk brand new
And I agree with this ^^^^^^ The problem is, there is so MUCH of an influx with overseas stuff now. You don't know if what you are getting is good or not. So naturally, since there is such a big pile of it, you will see more failures. It's the luck of the draw really.
Last week I had asked about some PRW rockers. Here's the link. http://www.forabodiesonly.com/mopar/showthread.php?t=306022 The pictures that Mike @ MRL posted answered all of my questions. Ted
Haha, thats true.. Im almost sorry i posted. he may get lucky and it could be fine for years!! Some have...i think We have a saying over here... its expensive to be poor.
okay I'll take this shot up. I was fully expecting everyone to say they were junk because they're not expensive. I swear this as the honest truth when I was in getting my motor today at the machine shop a guy came in with a set of Hughes rockers in his hand pissed to no end because the underside of them were smacking his valve spring retainers. A lot of these things are how they're set up and how they are used.I have the motor at home now and just got the first coat of primer on it and like the shop said one of the adjusters is finger tight on my 273 rockers. I will get the pro forms in the mail tomorrow put a set on one head and see how their fitting as far as geometry and clearances. If they look like they'll work fine I'll use them if not I'll send them back and just get some adjusters for the 273's. so you got it half right I was looking for someone with real life experience with these rockers I'm not just cyber spenders, but on the other hand I certainly don't need anybody to pat me on the back. 410 stroker imprimer baby!View attachment 20150224_203538.jpg
no no! I very much appreciate your post that makes it 2 to 2 as far as two people having bad experiences and two people having good experiences. that's what I was actually looking for not a bunch of opinions on cheap Japanese junk which we all know they are but actual real life experience with the rockers themselves. Again thank you for your experienced comments !
I had a set of them on my old 340 @ they are what you get for 200 some bucks! JUNK! check the lift @ the valve with a dial indicator. They will be all over the place for ratio! Ask how i know! One rocker was in the 1.3 raito range! (No wonder the idle got choppyer & throddle responce took a nose dive!) I had nowhere neer the .545 lift @ the valve i was checking it with a solid lifter. Went with comp pro magnums & that made a huge diffrence lift was withen .005 of the .545 overall lift @ the valve! Id stay with the 273 rockers before i ever did the pro forms! I've got sets of oe 273 rockers if you need to replace them.
Just came to mind my biggest consern when testfitting my proforms... The roller tip did not center at the valve stem, it was like 70% to one side, and even got worse when cam lifted... Not good for valvestem and wear. Check it out when you get yours;-)
please see the thread called "I set a new speed record today" it's a continuation basically of this thread.
