Project Riddler's Ride - 1976 Plymouth Duster

The cheapest place to buy the headliners is rockauto.com Don't forget to use the 5% discount codes they have out.

I bought one not covered so I can trim and cover it...I've read many posts about people needing to trim it down...

Well the 200lb struts came in and while they don’t rocket the hood open they do hold it open at any level.

Second picture shows the hood open with just the struts.

As long as they hold there position at the very least, your in good shape.

Thanks guys, I'm hoping to get started on my interior soon. I have the carpet in the basement under the fireplace and I turn it on for a few hours every night. I'll get that in and use cardboard to make a center console template. Then to have my seats and door panels and console upholstery done..

It all adds up.

I got the plastic headliner board in and trimmed it to fit. Only needed 1/8” cut on the rear and holes for the coat hangers drilled.

I then set about covering...

Spent some time cleaning the engine bay in prep of some more work.

I then began remaking the rear package tray.

Oh what a week! I've been working on wiring and getting things to work correctly. My dash lights were driving me crazy and then I found the issue. I put the pins in the connector into an empty slot on my 15 pin connector. Whew....issue resolved. Then I went ahead and started to test each gauge. Of course I have to program a couple and will hopefully get that soon.

Today I decided to tackle the reverse lights and the T56 wiring. The reverse light just wouldn't work and when I jumped the switch to see if it was the switch, it'd blow a fuse. Traced all my wires, there good. I then cut each bulb socket off and tested. Of course the last socket I tried was the issue. The pin inside was laying flat and was touching the outer wall. Issue resolved, well except the switch is bad also.

Here's hoping the rest of the testing goes much smoother.

Still need to find a reasonable F connector for the windshield wiper lines too.

A little pricy but you shouldn’t even need to worry about them again since it’s steel instead of plastic.

I've seen those, my only issue is I want to be able to screw it down like OEM as I have some hot headers near by.

I haven't found a company that doesn't charge over $25 for shipping to Canada yet.

The cold has drained me and pretty much stopped me from working on the car. But I did manage to get the rear package tray redone as well some small odds and ends.

The engine bay looks great. Are you running manual brakes or Hydroboost? Lack of a brake booster makes a big difference.

If you haven't already, you might want to wait a little while before completely installing the rear deck. I've never seen a spray can adhesive that would work with vinyl. If it doesn't stay down, maybe you or Greg can bring it by come spring and I'll put it down with some Landau Top Adhesive. THAT stuff will work, for sure.

Had to change up the clutch pedal design.

The bottom pic makes sense to me, but I don't understand what you were trying to do with the top pic. Was the all thread just being used as a locator, or was that intended to function like the metal shaft in the bottom pic?

Nice work, Joe. Gonna bring it out to Woodward this year?

I tried to fit a Hydroboost unit but it’s a no go. Just not enough space with the s Hemi.

The glue I used is a premium glue. I’m pretty sure it’s fine. Plus gravity will keep it down. I’m not sure happy with the small glue spot on got in it. I’m gonna try goo gone again.

The top pic was the pedal I tried to use. An engineer explained to me that the threaded rod was enough. It wasn’t, so we added the 90* piece of metal tohelp support it. That also didn’t work. This why I had a piece made and welded it on. Hopefully it works, which it should, as it’s the same as other guys who’s cars are running.

I just need to support the firewall now.

Woodward? Of course if it’s running. I think Autorama is gonna be out based on the cash flow...

Always next year though.

I seem to remember you doing something with a Neon wiper motor mounted inside the car so that it didn't have to be on the firewall. But the pics are gone from earlier in the thread. Do you have them handy? Considering something similar to make getting to my back driver's spark plug easier in the S-10. Wanted to see how you did it.

I don’t have any pictures of that handy. But it was super easy. I just made a large L bracket, drilled the holes for the wiper motor and attached them to the stock wiper arms but cutting and welding.

Still couldn’t get the clutch to release and the TOB was maxed. Time to take it apart and add nore spacers. .500” is not .620”.

That .180” was enough. Adding another 1/4” shim.

I finally found my clutch issue. I have no one to blame but myself here. I installed the clutch in backwards. Luckily theres no damage.

I’m also going to return to the 1/2” shim as I now have 1/4” more on the clutch.

My interior door panels and seat covers were shipped down to Arizona for some custom cnc sewing.

Seats will be black vinyl with charcoal suede with the blue scales sewn in.

Door panels are suede on top and black vinyl below.
