I'm about at my wits ends trying to get the proportion valve on my 71 Demon to stop leaking. I purchased a new one from Classic Industries and it leaked where the octagon shaped fitting screws into the housing. Snugged it still leaks. I ordered another through Summit and same problem. Leaks at the octagon shaped fitting. I'm about at the conclusion that these re- pops are nothing but Chinese junk. Has anyone else had these issues?

Is this a copper washer that is supposed to be sealing it? Probably more chinese crap. The copper is too hard to seal. You need to "anneal" the copper, heat it up very hot. When cooled the copper is softer and should seal.

It's the copper washer that's under the octagon shaped fitting that's not sealing. Yes, it's probably overseas junk.

There was a discussion years ago that "you can not get" soft copper washers. You must anneal them. You do that by flame heating them and then slowly cooling them. In other words they are too hard

Use some Loctite 567 pipe sealant on the male thread. Start 1-2 threads in from the end so that none gets into the fluid.
Also, if you do not have a copper washer, you can use alum which is also soft.

The imports are basically junk. Find an oem one...

I've looked at every vendor I can find and all seem to sell the Chinese re-pops. Wish I could find a OEM.

1970 - 1976 Mopar Combination Brake Valve Seal Kit | Muscle Car Research LLC

I been saving them for years This site has instructions on rebuilding them. Click the links on the site. I order kits from them they come with the soft copper washer.

There are two different style which are interchangable. Weatherhead and Kelsey hayes. You can see the physical difference in the pics I posted if your eyes are old like mine and cannot see the small logos.

Hey Old Man.. I was just thinking about you and wondering if you had an original you'd sell??. I have a factory pre January 1970 I can trade with but mine takes the one with the octagon shaped adapter.. I don't know what happened to the original that came on my Demon.

I had the same exact issue. Annealing the washer did not work for me.

Wound up buying a rebuild kit and an original from a poster here and it hasn't leaked at all.

What do you mean by the octagon shaped adapter? That would be some sort of 8 sided piece. The parts I have pictured are off of 70-71 a-bodies with disc brakes . Inline tube shows pics and PN#'s find yours and post the number you need. I just bought one for a 70 challenger Same as A-body but has a mounting stud vs. hole

It needs to have this fitting. I don't have the one that came on my car.. I purchased 2 re-pops and they both leak.. I'm looking to buy an original.
