Proposed 400 bb build, cam recommendations

Oh WOW! Very cool part. Do you think that’s 600 hp capable?
Maybe with spacers and some porting
Came from my buddy who worked for Chrysler. Raced a 62 wagon with the original 383/343 hp , this is the original setup off his car

That there is one super expensive set up to the resto guy!

It's going to need a single plane or tunnel ram to reach 600 hp.

I think there is a slight problem with your selection of parts here. Your building a big block 400, correct? Then the only dual quad intake I know Edelbrock makes currently is for the 440. Unless you have an older cross ram or OEM intake?
I have the 5186, that's what I threw in the dishwasher in the what are you doing to your car today thread. I gotta bead blast it.

What a bummer they did t detail an iota of the engine.
All they said was parts used, IE Edelbrock intake and heads.
I was thinking the Mopar Muscle Magazines of February and March 2012 would have more information. Alas no. They have somewhat longer write-ups on the 361, 383 & 400 engines used in the contest but not much more detailed information. Some of the engines were pulled to 8,000 rpm......some survived and some did not. One engine broke so badly you could look into the exhaust port on the cylinder head and see the lifter valley, camshaft and lifters! The exhaust valve head was stuck inside the cylinder wall in the water jacket between the cylinders.

Wow! That is amazing. That’s one very serious Ka-Boom!

The only stock stroke 600hp BBM 400 combo that comes to mind is one AndyF did for a friend of his several years ago.

RPM heads with some amount of porting(may have been MCH CNC), dome pistons for 12:1-ish CR, .651” lift UD roller, Victor(?) intake manifold.
I recall it making just over 600hp.

For sure, a bread n butter 400hp build with a 200 shot will be cheaper and easier.

ly rods will not work in a low deck with out special diamond pistons. aj
Not really sure what's available now. I put my 470" together a number of years ago and I used a Manley 6.760 rod w/BBM big end and .990 pin. The piston is from Diamond but I believe they considered it a semi-custom deal. Not really a custom piston at that time. Worked out great!

If an ly rod is bushed for .990 pins or use aftermarket rods with .990 pins, then any piston brand 1.485 piston & that would be on .045 down in the hole.
But zero deck would be 1.530, that's definitely a custom piston.

I've changed directions again. The machinist/friend who did a 440 for yrs ago for me is offering a 440/520 stroker kit, all forged, with a 440 block the has been bored 60 over, decks cleaned, etc. Has offered it to me for $3800, unassembled

The dual 4 bbl intake in post #76 isn't going to make 600 hp, NA. Those were marine intake manifolds designed for torque in the low/midrange, right where a marine engine needs it.
