Prostate Remedies: Are They Real or a Scam?

-
Anyone have luck with the "all natural" product that solves all of our male prostate quirks?
I take Saw Palmetto as needed. I have been checked as having a enlarged prostate which I hear is fairly common. My PSA numbers are in check so hopefully no cancer. The Saw Palmetto seems to work well when I have occasional issues. Check with your doctor to make sure.

I've been diagnosed with an enlarged prostate too. My PSA numbers have been all over the place, for years, but always trending up. I had a prostate biopsy done in 2011 and there was no cancer. Fast forward to June 2022, and another prostate biopsy was performed with no cancer. I have decided that I'm not going to worry about my prostate anymore.

I tried Saw Palmetto and it didn't help my PSA drop any. My numbers kept inching up for years, even though everything worked fine. They finally found my cancer with my 3rd biopsy in March of 2020, and it was very aggressive as far as Prostate cancer goes. My surgery was 4-8-20. I got very lucky and it was all contained in the prostate. My PSA has been undetectable since. @DartGTDan If they want to do what's called a Perineal biopsy, let them do it....that's how they found mine. Don't just not worry about it and let that crap kill you man.

Yeah, stay on the checkups is what I say. Cant expect the car to be runnin good when it dont get no love. The older the car, the more attention it needs. If you live long enough you will get prostate cancer. That seems to be what I hear. Best catch that **** early. The problem is we all have back pain. That is how it can present itself. So since we have no way (since we all have back pain) of knowing....its best to keep up on that ****.

There used to be a billboard heading down Hwy 99.....it read...."***,*** men will die this year due to stubborness"

had chemo therapy for prostate cancer
as I understand it, all men get prostate cancer if they live long enough
I think you might need to avoid table pepper
I would completely eliminate sugar for a month and watch how much better you feel-personal opinion

dad's chemo despite high-end expensive doctors was either too intense, or conducted too long during treatment sessions, or with probably not enough recovery time

they destroyed/damaged/fucked up allot of things below his waste

he pisses out of a catheter, it gives him infections, he sometimes pisses blood, can't sleep when he needs to piss...he could die soon, which would devastate my sister and mother which would be so very difficult to handle

It costs money, but a second opinion, or some OTHER DOCTOR WITH NO $$KIN IN THE GAME verifying his health during this fucked up treatment would have prevented so many problems

the man has a PhD but believes ANYTHING you tell him if you are an expert. but an expert might only be a specialist not checking on the big picture and the damage that surrounding organs and tissue are receiving during treatment

probably could not do ENOUGH research, but reading 3-5 books on the subject will give you a much better idea of what to expect, what to ask, and closer to finding out what you wouldn't know to ask that could be imperative to your specific body chemistry

best wishes and GOD bless you sir, gentlemen, to all whom may be concerned...

What Are Your Treatment Options for an Enlarged Prostate? (healthline.com)
Recognizing BPH

If trips to the restroom require sudden dashes or are marked by difficulty urinating, your prostate may be enlarged. You’re not alone — the Urology Care Foundation estimates that 50 percent of men in their 50s have an enlarged prostate. The prostate is the gland that produces the fluid that carries sperm. It grows larger with age. An enlarged prostate, or benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), can block the urethra from transporting urine from the bladder and out of the *****.

kidney and bladder stones. In severe cases it can lead to kidney damage.

Treatment options include medications and surgery. You and your doctor will consider several factors when you evaluate these choices. These factors include:

  • how much your symptoms interfere with your life
  • the size of your prostate
  • your age
  • your overall health
  • any other medical conditions

tamsulosin (Flomax)

Dutasteride (Avodart) and finasteride (Proscar) are two types of 5-alpha reductase inhibitors. You’ll generally have to wait three to six months for symptom relief with 5-alpha reductase inhibitors.

Current Drug TargetsTrusted Source. Combination therapy is often recommended when an alpha blocker or 5-alpha reductase inhibitor isn’t working on its own. Common combinations that doctors prescribe are finasteride and doxazosin or dutasteride and tamsulosin (Jalyn). The dutasteride and tamsulosin combination comes as two drugs combined into a single tablet.

National Institutes of HealthTrusted Source, transurethral resection of the prostate is the first choice of surgeries for BPH. The surgeon removes prostate tissue obstructing the urethra using a resectoscope inserted through the ***** during TURP.

Another method is transurethral incision of the prostate (TUIP). During TUIP, the surgeon makes incisions in the neck of the bladder and in the prostate. This serves to widen the urethra and increase urine flow.

pelvic-strengthening exercises.

  • Stay active.
  • Decrease alcohol and caffeine intake.
  • Space out how much you drink rather than drinking a lot at once.
  • Urinate when the urge strikes — don’t wait.
  • Avoid decongestants and antihistamines.

T.U.R.P surgery is the best surgery I’ve ever had. They ream out your prostate, makes you sterile in some cases.

As a prostate cancer survivor, I would recommend getting a doctor you can trust. I had a STRONG family history of prostate cancer, so they were watching me like a hawk. PSA test every year. One year it was slightly elevated, the next even higher. A biopsy was performed (ouch) and a form of aggressive cancer was found. They removed my prostate two weeks later. I am three years cancer free and have NO SIDE EFFECTS.

I understand you guys who want to shrink an enlarged prostate, but I would get a professional medical opinion and a PSA test. If there's nothing to worry about, you wasted an hour of your time. Your doctor can give you advice to shrink your prostate. If they find something, it may save your life.

My PSA's were elevated. Dr did biopsy=negative. 6 months later PSA higher yet, another biopsy=negative. 4 times over 2 years. Biopsy came back positive the 4th time. Dr wanted to do surgery, to remove prostate. I was unable to comply at that time, and the DR pissed me off, so I fired him. I went to another urologist, who gave me several options. First DR did not suggest options.
1 surgery
2 radiation
3 chemo
4 watchfull waiting
I went for radiation treatments. Once a day for 12 weeks. Takes about 15-30 minutes each. No side effects, and if it is not effective, there are still the other options. I have been cancer free for about 6 years, now.

The bottom line with the supplements I find is this: those who sell them claim it will (may) relieve some or all symptoms. Those who don't sell 'em (web md, etc.) say no proof the supplements do anything at all.

The adds for the supplements include persons who take them and claim they feel a lot better. The reason for my original post was to try to find even one person who really had a good result from a supplement. My best guess now is that no such person exists (here or anywhere).

Option 5…. “Seeds”. Radioactive implants.

JDMopar,

I'm glad to hear about your success/victory. I didn't mean to sound flippant about my prostate issue, but in February (2022) I was diagnosed with a rare liver disease called PSC (Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis). Basically the bile ducts in, and around, my liver are getting hard and narrow. There is no cure for PSC, and depending how it progresses, I may need a liver transplant(s). So, I've been a little more focused/concerned about that.

Thank you Dan, and along the same line I didn't mean to sound pushy about it. I can certainly understand about the bile duct issues. Earlier this year, I had a gall stone hung up in a bile duct, and had to have it (the stone) removed and then 2 weeks later the gall bladder came out. That wasn't diddly squat compared to what you are going thru though. I will say a little prayer for you and wish you much success with your treatments.

Here is what you want to avoid…

I waited til I was 56 to get checked. My wife FORCED me to go. My PSA was 8.4, my Gleason score was 9/10. Started radiation within weeks. Lupron shots too.
Seemed all good til 2020 when they found cancer had spread my to bones. It’s common for prostate cancer to spread to bones and/or lymph nodes. Now I also take Zytega and get monthly Xgeva shots.
So, on top of working 50+ hours a week I have to find time for shots, bloodwork, CT and Bone Scans. I also pay around $800 a month out of pocket with very good health insurance.
