question about VIN and body styles

And here's my VIN: VL29G3B

For body style, you have 2 door hardtop and a 2 door sports hardtop. What's the difference? Mine is listed as the sports hardtop, would that have a vinyl top? Mine has a vinyl top but I never knew if it was original or not.
 
23 - two door hardtop (think Scamp)
29 - Two door sports hardtop (think Duster)

The roofs are different.

Your vinyl top if original would be coded on the fender tag & broadcast sheet, details like that are not found in the VIN.
 
Well, assuming I read all the numbers correctly, which some were kind of hard to make out, it looks like my vinyl top was original... or at least a "green" top was and not the black one I have now.

Your VIN likely has G3B, not GB8. B - Hamtramck, MI assembly plant.
 
I'm not sure where you saw GB8, I did write G3B. Unless you meant that the other way around.
