How far ahead of build date should the wheel be dated?

In Mopar manufacturing? I dont think there is a hard answer. How would they get "numbers matching" (hate that term) on a 3rd party KH part?

Whatever came on it.

As one example, my '78 Super Coupe was finished in June '78.

Two wheels were dated 11-77, one was dated 1-78 & one was dated 6-78.

Yep, they didn't rotate the inventory in the warehouse. You could have 6 month old parts in the back of the pile that don't get used up for 9 months and the wheels that were produced 3 days ago and delivered yesterday goes on today's cars. Cast parts are even worse. Casting, machining, assembly, and car assembly were done in different plants with warehousing in between.

All four were date code 5/71 Car built 10/28/71

Actual build dates were not recorded until late in the 1972 model year.
