Rear Main Seal Package for Small Block Includes a Strange Template

I think I investigated this question in the past (a long time ago). The question is: I see a little white template thing inside the package that contains the felpro small block rear main seal. What is it and what is it's function? Thank you.

^^^^Correct, you need the plastic tip to help slide the upper seal in, if the crank is installed.

Basically a shoehorn for the seal edge.

When the crank is in the block ,You set the upper seal on the crank. Then slide the small tab in the block with assembly lube on it. This tab will prevent the seal from catching the edge of the block so it can easily be spun into place and not catching the sharp edge of the block.
