Replacing leaking top cylinders on my 69 dart. Noticed rope caulk like white stuff [still a little plyable] that side panels would stick to when I reinstall. What is it and where might I it? The less rattles the better! Thx in advance

I would consider 2 sided foam tape as an alternative. Guess it depends how often you need to go in there.
Likely is butyl tape thats there now.

Plain old rope or strip caulking from the hardware store works just fine.
