Morning FABO,

I have been surfing the forums lately and have found a couple threads with comments that say there a couple of different sized rear 904 seals (or tail shaft seals). Does anyone know how I am able to identify which seal I have and/need? My dusters a G code car but has been magnum swapped and the 904 has supposedly been rebuilt, I do not know if its the original transmission. Thank you for looking, any input and advice would be appreciated.

Ethan

What I learned from @lkopaska

There are three different output seals:
Late 904,
Early small od. 904 and
Bolt on flange 904.

Need to match up your flange one with part no# on it at parts store, they may need to order it in

Depends on the year. 1966 - 1972 2.254" OD, 1973-03 2.378" OD, and the largest also from 1973-03 2.445" OD. Probably for the bolt on flange.

Hope this helps.

It was the smallest actually, the 2.254", I bought multiple and that was the one. Did it a while ago, thanks for responding though.

Just installed the rear seal on my 904 the other day. It’s a 1975 Scamp (built in Feb 75) and the tail-housing has a December 1974 casting date. Ordered from Rockauto a WJB WS2506 seal.
