Hello- I'm sure this has been covered elsewhere but I am beginning the process of collecting the necessary sheetmetal for the resto of my '72 Duster. A few years back Sherman and Goodmark were the go-to providers. I see AMD is now in vogue. A couple questions: Is the AMD products worth the extra $? How does the panel fitment compare between the different companies? Not looking to go cheap but I don't need the name either. Also, who makes the best quarter panels (I don't need the full c-pillar version) and tail panels? I need front floor pans and inner fender top as well. Thanks guys!

Jeremy

I had very good luck with amd. My 71 duster I put 2 full qtrs tail panel and trunk drops in. All from amd. I waited till they had the online sale 25% off I would use them again. Imo

I bought my quarters from Auto Body Specialties. They are AMD correct? It was about 12 years ago, they have alot more parts available now.

I have used AMD. pretty good quality and they are supposedly stamped using Mopar certified molds. They are also the correct gauge. That said, I had issues with my quarter for my 74 dart swinger being a good inch or more too short length wise, it didn't match up with the rear tail panel and the marker light was in the wrong place. Now, AMD has taken that quarter panel out of production and sale so perhaps they discovered the problem. Moral of the story, expect fitment issues no matter who you go with.

No, two seperate companies. Auto body specialities stamps their own, AMD stamps their own.

I would say AMD is definitely worth the price difference. Their panels fit very nicely with very little extra work needed on my Dart. I buy a lot of my AMD stuff from Tamraz on eBay. They ship for free.

Yes, this is true. I have heard that the quarters"fit over" each other which would mean they are using an original quarter for a mold than stamping the repop over it. making it slightly larger. On my car the quarters were cut to fit. But it was 12 years ago, hopefully the quality has gotten better. That and overseas manufacturing can cause variations. I have always tried to keep as much original sheet metal as possible. I replaced a whole quarter on one side, and cut up a repop quarter for patch panels on the other. It was alot of $$$ to spend for patch panels, but at the time it was the only thing I could do.

for a qtr. replacement, go with the better panels. and realize there can be variation from panel to panel. lower patch panels? , not hard to get 18 ga sheetmetal and fab your own. the cheap floorpans and lower patches, , yep, cheap-er for a reason.

Do you really need a full 1/4? AMD is the best available. Sherman and Goodmark were the only game in town until. AMD rolled in. They keep coming up with more pieces.

I need the full quarters but not the ones that go up into the leaded area where the roof meets.

stay away from the skins they are cheap and thin .AMD actually uses a slightly heavier than original guage steel .Be aware that some parts are designed to be used with multiple years and variations of a model line ,ie the trunk floors use the larger later abody filler neck grommet that requires some modification of the package area floor support in a gen 2 barracuda .I would bite the bullet on a whole quarter then trim off what you don't need after you cut the old stuff off , who knows you might find you need more than you think .

I did a trunk floor , filler grommet , trunk floor extensions , rear cross member and tail panel/valance last year on my 69 fastback .All from AMD , every piece fit right and had all the needed holes in all the right places .
