I bought a set of reproduction wheel opening moldings years ago for my 69 Dart. Just recently got to the point on the resto of the car where I could install them. I got them from Metro Parts and paid just over $200 for them. It turns out these things are junk. They are severely misshapen and don't match the contours of the wheel openings at all. Also, they came with only the two center screw mounting holes in each molding so I have to locate and drill the rest of the holes. I've been working on them for three days trying to reshape them to match my wheel openings and it just isn't happening. I did get a couple of them close so I measured the hole spacing on the wheel openings and drilled the screw holes accordingly in the moldings but now they don't line up with the holes in the fenders/quarters because the moldings are still misshapen. I've decided to give up on them and buy another set. So, my question is, does anyone know who makes an accurately shaped set of moldings that come with all of the screw holes already in them? I see Summit, Jeg's and Classic Industries carry them but I just want to be sure if I buy another set that they will fit. I posted a wanted ad several times hoping to find a nice set of originals but had no luck.
we actually used some junk moldings to line up the metal we welded into the front fenders. I want to point out that I could never tell the fenders were modded untill we actually got into the body work ad disassembly of the car... whoever did it in the old days hid it well.
