reproduction gas pedal?

I bought a reproduction gas pedal. The hardware kit comes with a small black rubber piece. Where does this go? I don't see anything like it on my original one. Picture is from DMT website. Thanks

Here’s a photo of where it goes. It sits between the plastic pedal and accelerator arm.

Thanks. What year is the pedal in your picture? There is no place for that piece to go on my 68 pedal. I don't think it's used. Wouldn't be the first time an incorrect part found its way into a reproduction parts bag.

Just an FYI, the spring that comes with the new pedals is total junk. The coiled section of the spring is too small for the bushing to fit into. After enlarging that section for the bushing and messing around with it for 2 hours, I reused the original spring and bushings and had it assembled in 2 minutes.

There are little holes in the sides of that channel were the little tabs of the rubber piece slip in to hold it in place. This is a 72 pedal.

No holes like that in a 68 pedal. Thanks
