Does anyone know a source for restoration quality radiator hoses for our 64-6 273 A-bodies without A/C? The Gates lower hose 20386 fits fine, but, the Gates upper hose 20416 doesn't fit very well. It works, but, doesn't have the correct bends, so, you have to deform it a bit to get it to work. I don't like putting a hose under stress, plus it just doesn't look all that great on a restoration. Here's a photo of what I'm currently going to go with until I can find something better. I cleaned all traces of non-Mopar numbers, letters, etc. off the Gates hoses and reproduced the Mopar numbers and letters from some originals.

Nice job on reproducing the numbering and branding.

I haven't found anything but the cut to fit upper hose for many years now. If you find one, I'd be interested in the source as well.

do you have the correct t stat housing? It makes a difference
Oh yeah, definitely the correct 45 degree t-stat cover. I also have both used original and an NOS upper hose to use as patterns for the stamps I made, but, haven't found a hose with the exact bends yet. I suppose the tooling to make the correct ones has been lost to the scrap pile by now. Probably came back here as a Hyundai!

Nice job. I have a trunk latch around here somewhere that I experimented with makig it gold cad. Looks pretty darn close and I want to improve on it. Takes red, green, silver and gold color to look right from all angels.

I thought they were supposed to look like this if you had A/C.

I will check numbers. I have used Goodyear for the upper hose and Gates for the lower radiator hos. All stamps made by a potatoe dipped in white paint. There are no repro stampings.

For by-pass hose early style Goodyear works great.

Who did you use to supply you with a Goodyear hose? I've tried to look up Goodyear hoses online and I get just way too many headings to go through. Nothing seems to be automotive, more industrial, marine, hydraulic, etc.

nice I use a gummie eraser and freeze it then carve it in the CNC, But your is much cheaper for one off's I label my custom made plastic parts that way

I have old Goodyear application books. The 64 numbers are as follows: upper 60346, lower 60256, lower replacement 60173. 65-66 upper 60612 and lower 60614. These would be Continental numbers now. I know for a fact that the 60612 and 60614 have not been produced probably since the mid 80's. Rock auto shows the Continental 60346 but I suspect it does not had the correct bends in it-That hose is on their part number search. and the 60173 does not look correct to me either.

It probably never was a high volume piece. When Goodyear shipped their hose production to Mexico, a lot of these old Mopar hoses only had 1-3 mandrels available. So when those got damaged or lost, that was the end of that part number because they didn't care.
We still had the 2 belt warehouses in Lincoln NE and when they decided to move that to Moberly MO, they scrapped everything in the 2 warehouses out rather than move it to Missouri. I watched them load semi loads of belts bound for the landfill.
Goodyear was later bought by Continental, all of the belt and hose numbers stayed the same. Normally the 68-69 wo ac hose could work, 60666. But somewhere along the line they changed mandrels so it is not correct anymore. The picture still looks like it will work, but that is not what you will get.

I ran into the same thing. I bought the Gates 20416 and the 20386 both from Rock Auto. The 20416 (marked upper on the RA site) fit terrible so I tried the 20386 (marked lower on RA) as the upper and it fit very well with a little bit of shortening. So I ended up buying a second 20386 and have them in both upper and lower position, with a little trimming on both.

The Gates 20386 fits fine on the bottom without trimming. It's the upper that's a pain to get right. Sure, I could use an A/C hose and thermostat cover, but, I want it to look as factory as possible.

The upper hose for the AC models is not available.... Myron here (forget his user name) use to work at Continental and made those hoses for Chrysler over the counter and he thinks after they shipped this production out of country the mold must have broken. I found one on eBay 4 years ago and I acquired a few more from a private source but other than that my eBay notifications have not found another one. Continental 60661 is the correct upper hose for AC and the vertical thermostat housing if you can find one.

Did you try the 20386 on the top? It looks perfect, just like the pictures in the road test articles. Its not an AC hose in this application, I can't speak to other uses. I'm fussy too, I want an original look, the 20416 looked terrible, very non-original. I'll post a picture when I get it back together again.

I saw one online for an NOS one, but, $150 for a 60 year hose is not going to happen. I already have one of those to use as a sample, but, I'm not going to drive around on one that old.

The NAPA/Modac number is 7233. Not sure what that hose looks like.

There are reproduction stamps for them, because I had some made. I used my original hoses that still have the markings, plus I have an NOS upper hose to go by too.
