I just received this kit, an awesome Christmas gift from a friend! My Dad got me this kit when I was a kid, but I was too young and he put it together and I only helped a little. My question is, has anybody built one? Was is really difficult to build?

I had one when I was a kid. It had moving crankshaft with pistons and red lights for "spark plugs'. If I remember correctly there was a transmission and the shifter was the on/off switch. I was probably 6 or 7 when I built mine....with my dads help. I don't remember it being very dificult but then again I don't remember much from 35 years ago....lol.

Got one for Christmas when I was 9 or 10. I put it together myself so not difficult at all. Also remember the moving parts and lights. Was a lot of fun!

I've never built one. Can't be that hard if you follow the instructions.
Good luck and let's see it when your done.

Built one when I was 11 -12. Kit is not hard, just be careful not to use to much model cement. I remember having to clean up a little excess cement so the the parts would move smoothly like the pistons. As afbill said, it was pretty cool watching everything in action and the red lights for the spark plugs.

I built mine in 1971. Also did a paper in school on the internal combustion engine and went to the drags for the first time, all the same year. That was the beginning of the path my life took. Note : don't get glue on the cylinder walls, yes, I know from experience!

I have the visible 426 hemi and it's pretty easy but I've been building models since age 5

get a quality glue - I use "Goo" from Walthers...

Take your time and read the directions a couple times before starting..

I built one when I was a kid too. I have several now...every couple years I get the urge to build one. They even have a visible slant 6 if you can find one. I have the renwald visible chassis that the visible V8 goes into. it is very rare and very cool. has working clutch and shiftable trans, working brakes, streeing and so on. Good luck with your kit, you will enjoy building it.

I still have one new, in the box from the 1960's. As a kid I received 2 Visible V8 kits, and a Slant Six kit. Built the slant and the V8. The second VV8 is sitting in my attic presently.
          No, it's not for sale.

It is not a vintage kit. No light up spark plugs and a crank instead of a motor to turn it. I'm getting some valuable info online about some pitfalls of this Made In China kit. For one thing, the dies were molded to use sae screws and nuts, but this kit comes with metric. It is recommended to toss them and buy the sae hardware. From what I'm reading the finished product will turn out well, it's just going to take some extra work.

I'll post better pics when I get into it.

Wow Frankie you got some nice gifts as a kid. Were they difficult to build? Mine won't be for sale either.

I have those V-8 kits and as I remember they weren't all that bad to do. I would still like to find the /6 kit if I could find one.

I built one as a kid. Battery operated and I remember being so mad because when I turned it on the gears didnt mesh right and it wouldnt run. Nothing I could do either, I'd put one together again! Have fun!!!!

Oh, hell yeah! And yes, it can be bought. All that is built is the crank and pistons. I think its all there, still has electric motor and parts bag. I got this from my aunt when she died 10 years ago as it sits, she worked at Ford Aerospace making 25mm cannon shells and loved mechanical stuff. I never did anything with it.

I have an unfinished visible hemi. I'd really like a slant though!

I built one for a guy at my old job. I did it working through my lunch hour and it took me a couple of months. He was real happy to get it. Not real hard, just read the instructions and go slow. I use a liquid glue that welds, melts, plastic. You can use a small brush or tooth pick to apply. Works real good and you can control it.

I have the slant and the visible slant to build for me. Need to get my man cave done before I do those.
