true story.... One of my brothers had a '67 convert Camaro with a built 396 rock crusher 4 - speed. Headers, aluminum intake, side-saddle 850 DP, etc, and he wouldn't race my '70 Duster with a 340, and I didn't even have headers. I drove both, he and I both knew...
like a KZ900 ... LOL. My brother had a hot rod KZ550, and that was about all the bike I was up for... LOL. My other brother had a old Kaw 500 mach III, triple 2-stroke. LOL....
You had a few brothers too. lol My middle brother had a few 63-65 small block Darts, a built 63 or 64 shoehorned 440 Dart, and a few 4spd/ auto 360 Dusters. He jumped from one car to the next. He never could beat me. lol
I have a friend that's putting together a Nova with a 454 ..... It would be fun to beat him with a 318 in a D150...
Even better in an A100 van with a 3 on the tree. I knew a guy that took a Dart with a 3 on the tree shifter and modified it to shift a 4 speed. He put it in neutral and then pulled a floor lever for reverse.
I absolutely love driving 3 on the tree's. I have a tradesman 100 shorty van 318/auto, but not really setting that for racing. I think a teen D150 beating a 454 Nova would be rich-n-sweet desert. IF I lose...... "of course, you got a BB Nova, it's just a 318 in a truck"....
a BB nova gonna be 3500lbs curb weight, thats 500 lbs lighter than my lil plan jane /6 D150 curb weight!! and the truck got the aerodynamics of a brick! idk if a mild geared, generic cammed 2 bbl 318 gonna out pull that! whats your plans for exhaust? cast manifolds??
My long bed truck weighs about 3500 as it sits.... I plan on running the exhaust that is on their now... Seems Summit hasn't shipped my order yet...
well thank you. lol I know you've been around the block a time or two. the 318 should be a handicapped underdog. even with your tuning ability. lol you can only tune so much.
If and when it happens, I'll post a video,... win, lose, or draw And yes, a 318 N/A in a full size truck would be a handicap against a 454 in a Nova
Go for it!!!!! Years back I went up against a 427 in a split bumper Camaro.......round 1 I red lighted, round 2 he won, round 3 he didn't make the call to the line as he was leaking anti freeze My teener was the 12 second combination
There is no way that a warmed up 318 in a truck would beat a half way competently built 454 Nova.....I know its still cold outside, but the bench racing is getting a little crazy around here....
you wouldn't think.... but I'm dumb enough to try it, stupid enough to record it, and don't care enough that I'll post it ... LOL If you really think about it, how can I lose ????
If i win, ya gonna put one of these stickers on your car??? Sounds like it wouldn't be much of a risk to say "yes"
I've lived my whole life in trouble. "dial honest, tree 'em and leave 'em" P.S. - i just got another pack of stickers in the mail this week. LOL
The thing is you have nothing to loose, nothing; yet you have everything to gain. Not lot's of people would would give up 136 cubic inches to an opponent, which could mean you are giving up 136 HP, takes balls to do it........GO FOR IT!!!!!!!!!!!!
I regularly played with a Duster 340 on my way to work in my '65 with a 68 340 in it. Id beat him every time to the point that he wouldnt even race me anymore. Mind you this was on a resi blvd and we'd take it up to about 60 and then let off but I'd beat him to 60-70 by about 3 car lengths every time. 3.55 SG 7.25 rear too! His 340 looked 100% stock, most likely an auto like mine. I beat a buddy in a Camaro with a 6.6 motor too. He had that weird diagonal carb mount Edelbrock torker intake.
