Folks,

Does anyone know the weight of a '75 Duster ..the front seats drive train, suspension, gas tank gone..the shellcannot be more tha 800 pounds.

My BIN is still into british cars says it will be a lot higher.

Anyone ever weigh a frame ?

All I know is if you take a 67 Barracuda notchback, remove front clip, decklid and rear bumper, both doors, all glass, all drivetrain, cut off roof and full quarters including rockers and wheelwells, the left over piece can be placed on four blocks of wood easily by two people lol..

I would bet it weighs more then 800lbs....I'd say closer to 1600lbs, but thats just a guess.

The 75 bumpers alone on those cars with the mounting assemblies/hardware weigh about 100+# EACH!

It's more than 800.

If it's just a bare shell, with no accessories, windows or anything bolted on, then 800 might be close.

When I was rebuilding my 72 Demon I had it down to the bare shell plus the doors and rear window. When I wanted to get the car higher I just asked the wife to place the new supports as I picked up each end of the car. I would say that it was less than 800 lbs.

but where were the jack stands placed? That makes a huge difference.

I think 800 is close. I would not guess it to be over a 1000.

Two were on the frame rails near the rad support and the other two were on the frame rails beside the gas tank area. Some mechanical advantage there but not a lot.

The reason I ask....if I cannot find a roteserie to rent or borrow, I will build a roller out of wood that will allow me to roll the car on it's side. I don't need to do anything except wirebrush and paint, weld in spring relocators and put in new gas and brake lines. I think this would be a good time to look at the gas tank. It would be absolutely silly if I take averying off all the running gear and no nothing with the underside of the car. If I add wheels, I can use it for moving the car around when it is on all 4s. Wood it amazingly solid and strong. I have a couple of dry, straight 4*4s that have been waiting for this.

Cost us yunder 50 bucks I suspect.

There is a member her that has a wooden engine stand and I have seen a wooden stand for engine break ins.

The downside is that if you need to flip the car on the other side, you have to remove the unit and install it the other way. I saw this unit on a Jetta..and he was using a 2*4 vs my 4*4. My BIL thinks I am nutz.. Aferwards I can us te wood for something else.
