I have a '70 Dart that has a forward manual shift 727 trans. It has a console factory shifter which sucks. Anyone put a better shifter inside the console, any problems. thanks

I put a '70 Cuda slapstick in my Demon. Works good.

Had to:
Drill a new hole in the upper bell crank where the shifter handle rod connects.
Move the console ahead to allow the shifter to go into park without hitting the console.
Enlarge the hole in the shifter slot plastic.
Grind a portion off the rear shifter bracket to allow the shifter slot plastic to slide.
Trimmed the chrome guide on the underside of the console to allow the slot plastic to slide.

Thanks to @Jim Lusk for the guidance on this mod

Mine has a B&M Quicksiver universal shifter in the original console. The Handle is on the left and the PRNDL plate is on the right. It’s a cable shifter so it is pretty easy to install. The only pain is keeping it away from the hot stuff. Bad news is I just bought one and they are about $500 with tax.

Car is up on lift now. I’ll look & see if I have some pics.

Not trying to pimp my stuff here, but I have a Quicksilver that I took out of my Duster I'd be willing to sell for a deal if @44070dart decides to go that way. I also ran it in a console for 2 seasons before I swapped to a 4 speed.

I’ve just gone the other way, took a B&M Pro shifter out and put the original shifter back in. The B&M fitted under the console, the previous owner fabricated a platform out of sheet with tabs that he welded to the tunnel after he removed the original shifter cradle. He scribed the line of the shifter on the tunnel and marked the line of the B&M shifter on his platform so he could line it up and the arm would align with the original gate in the console.
He didn’t do such a good job with the cable it had melted through on the exhaust.
