I am installing a dana 60 in place of the original 8.25 rear axle in my 74 Duster, do I need to change the shock plates from the 8.25 axle,as the U bolts dont line up with the holes in the shock plates with the dana

I was under the impression that the 8 1/4 also used a 3" tube. Is this not true? I do know that the 7 1/4 uses a smaller tube, u bolt spacing and shock plate.

I believe this to be correct as well. I went from an 8 1/4 to a strange S60 which is essentially a Dana 60 and did not change my shock plates. I did buy new u bolts.
