The dude wants $600... and more importantly, the AC compressor spins freely! Looks fairly rust free as well.. I was not able to get under it to see the axle or frame rails. What can anyone tell me about the "super 225" air cleaner?
oh yeah. I rescued a '69 Rambler and my current Duster from this same property. both growing up to become decent cars! you can see the duster in the background of one of my pictures, and also found one that had this very dart in it!
I would gladly pay $600 for that car for parts. The grille alone looks real nice. The bottom line is that many parts on a 66 Dart are one year only.
Worth only what YOU want to pay for it. Less to some.....More to others. Of the 3 Valiants and 4 Lancers l have, $400 was the most l paid for anyone of them. Super 225 = 2bbl
So let me ask this: Is that A/C worth anything? In working order, do they cool well? and also, can they be converted to 134?
Depends on how restorable it is. If it's fundamentally sound, $600 is a fine deal for what looks like a straight, high-spec (factory air!), mostly complete car. If it's got terminal undercar rust, then $600 is a fine deal for a whole lot of choice parts (complete factory A/C system, desirable cable-type '64-'66 A-body accelerator pedal setup with kickdown linkage, front and rear bumper guards, very restorable steering wheel with full horn ring, etc). "Super 225" was the decal applied to '63-'68 Plymouth 225 air cleaners; the Dodges of that era with that engine got "Charger 225" decals. It doesn't signify any special engine or power package, and it's a 1bbl setup. The '77-'83ish 2bbl package had a "Super Six" air cleaner decal.
Even if it’s given to you for free it will never be worth as much as the parts needed to get it running. But if it’s not rotted out from rust it could be a cool driver. The seat looks pretty decent. It does look like the radiator and the shroud were removed, those are worth about half the asking price. I’d like to see what the AC brackets & pulleys look like.
Well, it is a project. I looked at youtube half a year ago or whatever, someone was out in the what do you call it finding a truck. I have forgotten what brand it was, either a Dodge or a Ford, it was not a GM. It was dirty, and looked terrible. Then he took it to a place with a pressure washer, and washed it. And when he was done, I mean really washing it, moldings, sheet metal, windows, everything, the vehicle did not look that bad at all. This car look a bit rough, but with a good wash, it might give you more courage to work on. If you want it, then why not. You will save a vehicle, you will save resources that the world is in need of. Nice car too. Before I knew any better I was told my 1965 Dart Station Wagon was a 1966, so I ordered an operators manual for a '66, and a sales brochure. Well, I was educated when I got them and saw it was not my car. Well, that is a generation ago, in 1981, a guy at boot camp in the army sold it. Bill
The under dash unit, bumpers, front fenders, hood, windshield, grille, headlight bezels, wiring harness...$375. Cut off the bottoms of the back quarters and junk the rest.
No biggie. It's an easy mistake to make. The names are kinda similar. I wish they had put the 2bbl on that soon. Maybe they'd put a 4bbl on later. lol
iTs gOt ToO MaNy DoOoOoOoOrs!!!! psh....good!! mine wasnt in much better shape when I started. fun fact: the 4 door darts were the lightest of the bunch by about 250+ lbs.
Save it. Every year there are fewer and fewer of these left - putting it back together is great fun and it's cheaper than therapy.
When the listing for my 66 got posted people laughed - but I rescued it and now it's a sweet running 273 car with solid floors, and I know every inch of it. Was not a great stretch.
Here is how I view 4 door cars, or station wagons for that matter. You get twice the car for the same money, or the same car for half the money. Those two doors only, cost a lot of money. If you want a two door, and the car is in this or that shape, you pay so much for it. If it was a four door, and it cost the same money, the car would be in a much better shape. A lot better. And, if you happen to have a spouse and kids, a 4 door is much more convenient. Try having 3 kids in the back seat that wants out now, just right now, and you have to get out first. I do not have kids, but I have been one, and the ones in the front seat were yelling and telling us to be patient. But, I could clearly see that they were ...... for having to get out of the car all the time. My late dad, he was a truck driver, and had a Mercedes Benz truck, with 4 wheel drive, and he used to say that a truck with 2 wheel drive was only a half truck (since they got stuck so easily). Now, how does that equate to cars and doors, you get the picture. Who on this planet want to drive around in a half car ? Bill
Good analogy. I never thought of them that way. Something to ponder though, "all doors" are not as popular or worth as much to resell. So, if you want to restore one, it is easy to over spend from a resale value standpoint. Remember, 4 doors, no waiting!
I did not mean to smack those who likes 2 doors only, well, a little bit, maybe... we 4 door people get so hammered for our two extra doors that I think they can take a little heat... not really heat, just comfy warmth. (I do happen to really like the look of a 1969 Dodge Dart GTS, see, I can admit my faults, lol ) Bill
