Can any of you relate to working a full day on your car and then you go in for a break and sit down and then you realize that you may or may not get up and start working again.

The last time I put in an 8 hour run on sanding one of my cars.....my feet were absolutely hammered and felt sore for like a week after.

Dang, I don't remember that happening when I was in my 20's.

Lately I have been on my feet a lot and it seems the pain is traveling from my feet all the way to the top of my shoulders. .....dang, how will I finish anymore cars at this rate :(

Get new boots/shoes. I was wearing some crappy Dickies work boots with a hard sole and was feeling miserable after work: foot arch pain, back and neck. I got some good Red Wing work boots (the hiking boot style: nylon/leather/molded sole) and what a difference! With the proper arch and ankle support, your posture is better so your back doesnt hurt and of course your arches are supported more so your feet are not sore. Its like night and day for me.

You need new insoles. See if you have a high end shoe store near you. They will have a GOOD version of the foot thingie WalMart has to show you the best insoles for you. We have a place in middle Georgia called RunFit. I am actually going there this week for some more insoles. Even good quality insoles' effectiveness last only about 6 or so months on concrete. Bad shoes and insoles can make you hurt from the feet all the way up. Since your feet hurt, your body automatically finds new ways to walk and stand using different parts of your feet. This causes you to put stress on different parts of your body than normal and can cause all kinds of maladies.

I cant wear running shoes. Every job i have had involves being on my feet/concrete for the last 30 years.
I usually replace my boots once a year.
7:00 until 5:00 or 6:00 is a lot of hours in steel toed boots. I have orthotics, which i use occasionally.
Pay attention,if you are dragging your feet, something isnt right.

Oh,and a big issue, at least for me is cold cement. Especially if im not wearing my boots. The aching starts and just gets worse until i get off the cold floor.

Pace yourself too.

I am very active at my day job, set a pace & keep going.

Try not to rush.

Stay hydrated & a light snack once in a while too.

Feed your body here & there, it keeps your body from using up its stored calorie reserve. Once you tap into that reserve, aches, pains & fatigue are all headed your way.

You are to young for this, or you don't do stuff like this every day so... Yes ! Foot wear is the number one thing we all should do and think more about
To be on the safe side I would have your platelet count checked next time you see your doctor , is it your left foot ?

Right. You can not work off concrete in old wore out boots. You must have the great boots that fit your arch. Also lots more water and stretching.

Good boots or shoes are a must. No sneakers! My weapon of choice was a steel toed Red Wing shoe with custom orthodic inserts.

If the foot pain is really bad, go see a good specialist.

If I already worked the full day I'm done anyway. The 'don't want to go back to work thing' frequently kicks in on my first coffee break.:D

At a little over 50 I can tell you it ain't getting better. On the good morning I wake up with some pain. On the bad ones the pain wakes me up.

From what you have told us, that really isn't very far.:p

Red wings are awesome. I need to get a new pair soon...They hold up so well mine are a few years old and still in pretty good shape. And my feet still feel better in them than a (much less worn) pair of Timberland Pro's

Join the club! Good shoes are a must with my back issues. I spend $100+ for New Balance 928's. Best shoe I have ever bought.

maybe that style redwing but man we were forced to get redwing boots at work last year.. holy ****.. worst boot i've ever worn. just about everyone at work complained about them too.. even supervisors that don't do the standing and walking we do.. this year we told them we are buying our own and they are writing the $150 check to reimburse us like it used to be.. funny thing is that our safety guy at work was on a all hands meeting with most of the other plants around the country and as soon as he said we hated the redwings 4 or 5 other plants chimed in and echoed our complaints... i'm going back to the timberland pro with composite safety toe and anti fatigue. man are they comfortable and keep the joints happy..

If you are standing mostly in one place for some time , get some cushioned pads to stand on. HF has some at not too bad of price. They are only about two foot square, light weight , interlocking and easy to move around. They will make a difference.
Yote

You might want to try some Dr Scholls custom arch supports. They are considerably cheaper and semi-custom using the machine at a Walgreens. Really helped me past 60 years of age.

I've worn Red Wings for the last 20 years and these I have now are like tennis shoes compared to the old clunky linesman boots I have had in the past. I had the tall black ones (3X) with the green soles, the Ox Blood colored ones 2X, and now these. Im going to get these again but this model has been discontinued already..something about the crease point inboard that always wears a hole, true. I still have an old pair of 18" linemans that I got stashed when I'm doing some gaffing, nothing like a full shank to spread the load of those gaffs.

Joe, are these the ones? @abodyjoe

"In a previous life" I worked for a large parts store. We sold conventional auto parts, popular heavy truck parts, made hydraulic hoses, turned rotors and drums, and carried lots of industrial bearings, roller chain and sprockets, and belt drive components. We also had a line of industrial janitorial supplies. We were very busy at times and on our feet all day, concrete.

I can still remember there were Monday mornings when MY FEET STILL HURT FROM THE WEEK BEFORE

those are comfortable i bought a pair a couple years ago because i liked the plastic toe protection. my normal leather boots in that area get beat up some times.. but they are kinda heavy. kinda wear ya out after having to run for 12 hours at work.. very comfortable though.. i still have them at home actually.

@RustyRatRod these are the ones i like (link below).. was buying them for the last 6 years or so until we were forced to get redwings.. i just gotta get to the store and get me a new pair this year. go try a pair on.. they almost feel broke in when new.. took me a month the loosen up the damn redwings..

timberland has quite a few styles with the anti fatigue in them. its built into the sole and the insert.

i've found them as cheap at $129 online. the amazon link is just to show the style..
