started to feel like it was running out of gas , pulled over and it won't run , has a full tank . If I pump the gas it starts for 1/4 second and stops . Have not had time to trouble shoot , but some ideas , seems to be getting gas , seems to spark as it fires up and dies , where should I start looking ?
Thanks

fuel filter?

My first thought , will check in morning , but seems to be getting fuel to the carb, was thinking fuel pump of filter , but carb still has gas in it , it runs for 1/4 second and dies and i can smell fuel , but maybe not enough ??
It felt like it was starving for fuel for a bit then just died and had to roll to side of highway , if I didn't just fill up 20 minutes before I would have thought out of fuel .
Thanks

new or old tank? that is classic of plugged filter or sock... or goes almost empty and then filling it agitates anything in these which hits the filters...

New tank and always kept at at least 1/2 tank , full with stabil during winter storage . Stored in a climate controlled garage . Filter is first thing to check , think it a new one was put on last year when I put in extra motor , but maybe not , might be filter that came with car 2 years ago .

What would happen if the orange box crapped out ? Would I get a spark to ignite the fuel and it would die right away ? If the box went bad on the highway would it feel like it was running out of fuel ?
Been 35 years since I've driven a dart so not familiar with what happens when parts go bad

Sounds like a bad ballast resistor to me. When you crank the starter it's bypassed by the key switch so you have spark while cranking but as soon as you let off that circuit opens up and the spark dies. That's why it starts for 1/4 second then dies.

X2 change the ballast resistor, and keep a spare in the glove box.

My dad bought an new 78 power wagon and made the sales man go to the parts counter and get a ballast resister to throw in the glove box before he drove it off the lot.

I will change the ballast resistor soon , think I have a spare in the car , like I sais been years since driving a Ddoge , should have known that , always carried a spare back in the day , think there is one in the love box .
If it works I owe you guys aqfew beers .

,You got it in 1 ! Changed ballast resistor started right up , now I remember why I had spare resistor , voltage regulator and orange box in the car , they go bad at the worst time !
Thanks guys !

Good deal. I have had the same thing happen to me so I recognized the symptom. I carry 2 spare ballast resistors with me just in case the first doesn't make it home, LOL
