I know there are a few posts from years ago. Just curious if there are any "easy" ways to put a small roots blower on a smallblock. After buying pretty much everything to throw a turbo on my barracuda i decided it would look much cooler with a small roots blower. Not looking for maximum hp, as i doubt the stock long block can take too much boost. Was thinking a 177. Cant find any kits other than 6-71's which i doubt the stock motor could even turn over...lol. Anybody doing this? Is there finally a kit out there? Anybody have one stocked up and ready to sell? Not looking for shiny, would like to find one that appears to have been sitting since the seventies..

I don't think anyone makes the small superchargers for mopars anymore. B&M used too, but those haven't been made for a long, long time.

Well if Weiand "now Holley" was up to anything besides Shimmy and Fraud, "we" could have them. I've thought about trying to adapt a "mini" blower. The problem from where I sit is that most of the affordable as in used blowers are made for the smaller V6's and so on.

Building a manifold would not be all that tough. Probably the easiest way would be to buy a used / new inline dual quad manifold. Then make a plate / spacer to bolt to that and the blower. You could fab that with steel plate, a torch / plasma, and a grinder.

Big thing for me is getting dimensions. you certainly don't want the drive snout to be "back there" too far or "Up there" too far. And, some of the FWD stuff has the intake area "inline" with what would be the rear of the engine.

Just last night I was searching about this, showed up on CL, but for FOUR GRAND

      It's a "177"

But I'll tell you, there is damn little on Holley's site about the darn thing other than a few expensive kits

I've built a few blown motors. The stock motor would be perfectly happy with a 6-71.

Bought the setup jimjimjimmy had. He gave me a killer deal and is a great guy! Showed up in the mail today. Has a 6" lower pulley and a 3" upper pulley so is 50% overdriven. Based on the online calculators could be anywhere from 7-14psi based on the efficencys of both the engine and supercharger. Thinking i should probably start with a smaller top pulley but was wondering what others with experience thought? I dont mind running a mix of race gas, or the station a few blocks from me sells aviation fuel. What will my boost be?

144 with small upper pulley will give you 4-5 psi.
What is your compression and cam now? This is a big factor.

Where did you get 4-5psi from? Everything i am reading with a 273 and a 144 50% overdriven is at least 7psi? Just curious and trying to learn.

      Just from experience.
      I have a 9:1 SBC with a 144, basically stock vette 79 L82 motor with true duels.
The more restriction your heads and exhaust are the more boost you will make.
Mine averages about 4 psi this is with a stock 114 degree cam.

Your basically stock 2bbl 273 is a good candidate for the 144 as long as you make some changes.
      Good exhaust.
Fuel pump a carter super street mechanical with a holley regulator.
Limit your total advance on the distributor to around 28 degrees, but put as much inital as you can, like 16-20 degrees.
Put an adjustable vacuum advance can on it and turn it down to around 9 in.
3310 holley would work good, boost reference it with 2 jets larger to start out with.
This would be a starting point.
Add a AFM to dial it in, do not let it detonate or go lean it will come apart if you do.

Well i am sticking with the manifolds and the 40yr old side pipes for now. I have a msd digital programmable ignition that was going on the f.a.s.t. Duster but it doesnt really need it, so it may make it on the barracuda so i can lock the dizzy out and build my own tables, i think i can reference boost to it, will have to check. I am thinking about sticking with the thermoquad for now? Anybody ever run a thermoquad on a blower?

I'm staring at this problem too. I want a bolt on top mount blower for my 8 to 1 compression 360. I don't want a hairdryer/ pulley with a carb in a sealed box. I want the carb sticking through the hood. It's my car and that's how I want it. I'm building it for me, not the next guy who might buy it.

You will want a 6-71 for that 360. You won't be able to get enough boost with a smaller blower without overdriving it and creating a lot of unwanted heat.

running a stock TQ as a draw through (traditional through the hood setup) would only require big fuel inlets, like as big as you can get or make duals. draw throughs are nice like that, they dont need anything special, but run an A/F gauge to be sure you are not running lean up top, save yourself!

Have you run a TQ on a draw thru set up?
Parts for a TQ are hard to find.
I know for a fact you cannot run vacuum advance on them with boost.
You really want vacuum to dial in a street blower for decent gas mileage.
      ?????

Finally started mocking this up. Boy the ports on this intake are huge. It is going to be very interesting to get them to seal up to the factory 273 heads. lol.
