Was wondering if any of the years in the game members here have any recollection of the solid Lunati max wedge cheater cam (as run in NHRA SS) and it's specs? Not sure if there were variants of it, or if it was one particular spec'd cam through the years? Just reminiscing about the first time being around max wedge cars, and a bad combo I put together (pure race cam on the street= cracked heads) at the wet behind the ears age of 19, I recall the lobes looking like bloated eggs. No info online that I can find. Thanks

The variations are pretty endless. There are TF and 4spd grinds as well as tweaking of the ramp(?-more like "cliff") speeds by the various grinders. I personally have 2 different Lunati grinds (Stage II) and one Crane, and the .050" numbers are different on all 3 as well as the gross lift and lash specs.

I kinda figured it wouldn't be that easy. It was a cam I bought back in 85/86, had idea of making a 64 Sport Fury 440 powered mw replica, got it from a max wedge guy who had parts connections/dealings with Dvorak. I know it was for an auto MW engined 64 savoy iirc. That's all I remember, other than it transformed my car into a complete beast until it sprung leaks on both heads due to overheating, the duration being through the roof and all. But it made the popcorn well and was frightening (with a J converter) while it lasted

The lobes on one of my Lunati's are noticeably "square" with a lot of +.300 lobe lift. I think the specs are 268*@.050" and .518" lift with .012" lash. In comparison, I have Cam Dynamics and Comp Cams "Magnum/Commando" hydraulic cheater cams and a Lunati 340/275-290HP cheater cam they look much more rounded ( albeit .458/.467"ish valve lift).

I may have a Lunati book from the early 90's in my archives... I'll need to do some digging to see if I still have it.

Was thinking of that as a possibility. I'd just like to know what the specs were, I had no idea at all other than it was from an actual max wedge Dvorak had run. I now recall him telling the guy I bought it from "it ran (I don't recall but it was quick) so the guy will like it" and later on I asked if it was street able? Reply was "not really".... Ah youth:realcrazy:

Found a book from 1992."lunati's version of the Stage III 425 HP 426 Wedge cam" 253/253 @.050, 300/300 gross, .520/.520 lift 112 lSA, .028/.030 lash.

This is a reproduction based on the actual timing events of a stock cam, a "cheater" is designed to maximize airflow using gross duration figures (SAE) and max lobe lift, but NOTHING else qualifies as stock. LOL

Ah yes I do recall that now... there is a page in there about NHRA legal stocker cams and how to order them... Perhaps call Lunati, maybe they have something in the archives...
