Working on dads 67 fastback, speedo wasnt working, so when we had the dash out, we discovered the speedo itself was stuck, so we got that resolved. Speedo still no workee, so I pulled it outta the tranny and the end was pooched/frayed. The outer sheath is still in good shape, so can we just replace the inner cable?? If not, where do you recommend to get a new one, it has to be a thread on type for 67 speedo. I saw rock auto has one for $10....mfg by ATP any opinions on it??

Thanks
Steve

Well we ordered from rockauto, their listed part # for dads application was Y803...well wrong! The new one is 83" long(y803) and the old one is 63" and dad found a part# on the old one(y804) I tried searching the net(Summit) withY804 and they all say its for 64-65 cudas, but dads is 67. Oh yeah, Rockauto will not reimburse the shipping($26)...no surprise, we wont be ordering the correct cable from them this time. Can anyone confirm correct # for 67 cuda 273/904??

Thanks

does the rock auto cable have the correct ends? if so try looping the new cable& seeing if it will work? although 20" seems excessive-- Lawrence

The aftermarket often lists the B,C-body parts for A-body also. They dont have a suggestion for what to do with the extra cable length.
The correct cable is available somewhere, I've seen it.

Yep thats it Bill, thats the right one. Also known as Y804Z. Every website I have seen (Summit, Rockauto) List it as Y803Z. I spoke to Rockauto today to see if they would exchange for correct one...No Deal! I would have to return incorrect one($20 to ship), and get purchase refund only($10). Then still have to pay for correct one plus shipping. Its my fault that their website and customer support is wrong, apparently. :oops:Not a big deal as its a relatively low dollar part, but I wonder if Summit would have treated this differently?? Probably....

Speedo cables may have some slack, but with an extra 20" to loop, thats a bit much! By the way the MFG of the cable is ATP...maybe send them a heads up...

Thanks everyone...

Good deal. There are others on eBay but this one has free shipping (don't know about Canada) and I have bought from this seller with exellent results.

A little update on dads speedo/cable issue. We took the bezel out......AGAIN!! Lemme tell you with the ac and radio installed IT AINT FUN!! Anyway, took speedo out, thread the cable on fully, but not tight and the speedo "sticks" and return spring doesnt work...loosen the cable so it is threaded on approx 1 turn and it works perfectly. Snug the threaded connector on and it "locks up" WTH??

Took dad in my speedo and my cable (69) and it works perfectly....everything looks fine on dads, but dont function worth a damn, anyone got any ideas?? The "stop" on the cable is there too

Thanks

Typical aftermarket ( and at one time OEM ) cable fault. First, make sure there is nothing left of a previous cable in the instrument. If you'll pull the cable itself out of the sheathe a bit and insert it to the instrument you'll probably find its pushing on the input before the stop touches. Shorten that square end a bit.

I think I understand ya Ben, there is a little "ring" on the cable, well that "ring" on the new cable and on the prev cable doesnt hit the back of the speedo, so I believe the squared end is bottoming out. That is what you mean right?? If so I will grind a bit off of the squared end a bit. I will make sure there is no junk in there either. Thanks!!

I'm with Ben on this one Steve, put the cable in the dash first and then into the transmission. If it is still to long shorten slightly the square side (transmission) side where it goes into the driven gear.

Hey Rocky, we got the dash out...AGAIN!! So what end should I trim, the speedo end or the tranny end?? Im thinking speedo end as this is where the stop is...

Thanks
Steve

Up here almost any speedometer shop will either repair the sleeves or make one. Had you checked with a speedometer shop?

tranny end should be a fairly long section where it is squared off. Unless it is bottoming out at the Farrell on the speedo end?
