this is my 2nd post tonight! Lol
Ok so I also just realized the new mini starter I bought last year will not work with the fly wheel setup on the Manuel transmission. Are the starters different for auto and Manuel trans? If so what type of starter do I need?

I switched from 904 to a833 and switched to a mini starter and had no issues. My mini starter was from Powermaster.

No it fits on nice. But check out the gap between the starter cog and the flywheel teeth

Yea but I put the mini on when I had the 727 auto. I’m thinking there a diff between the auto and Manuel. Just want to be sure before I go spend more cash

My personal experience with the powermaster was it was a pile. I got one at the U Pull It Out of a Dodge Ram and I absolutely love it. I hope your serves you better than mine served me..

It’s fine. Use it as is and don’t look back.

The same mini starter will fit and work with either manual or automatic transmissions.
Are you sure you have the correct flywheel for the bell housing that you are running?

As was asked before, what is wrong with the picture? The small gear slides to engage the flywheel when the starter is energized. Same starter for manual and auto, big block, small block and slant six with a couple of exceptions.

Ok, thanks for all the posts guys. I’m going to pull it out, take a look and reinstall. I just don’t think it’s going in close enough to engage.

Please be clear..........it wont work at all? It grinds? "It what?" You don't have the wrong size flywheel because it would be wwwwwaaayyyy far off so if the starter is correct (For a Dodge V8 magnum) then it's a defective starter

When you energize the starter the pinion gear will jump rearward into the flywheel. Then it will begin to spin the engine. Then when you release the key, the starter gear will return to the parked position, as you now see it.

I swear it was 318 has valves that will fly that told me about the junkyard starter. But I swear that $22 U-Pull-It starter has been one of the finest units I've ever had. I wouldn't waste my money on anything else ever again if I ever have to for that matter. yeah it was greasy and ugly when I got it but after I shot it with WD-40 and wiped it off and shot it with some more WD-40 and kept wiping it off I did it a third time it came whisper clean.

You probably need either a shim (Van's auto sells on ebay) or the steel shim plate and it will probably fix it if it grinds or sticks
