I tried to join the car stereo forum below the list of site sponsors but that place is beyond dead.
I have some old car stereo stuff here that I want to use. The head unit not crazy old, (Kenwood KDC255u) also says Y21 on sticker on top. Not sure exactly how old, I'm gonna guess about 10 years ish.
I also have a brand new (from 2008) Sirius radio add on unit brand new in the box, everything seems there. From what I see I have to run a redundant antenna along the edge of the windshield close to the stock factory FM antenna, they need to "talk to each other" to receive Sirius. There is also a magnetic small hockey puck looking thing that it says to put on the roof as far back as possible. This Sirius thing is brand new never been registered with Sirius. Can it still be used or is it garbage can filler? I ain't looking at it this second but it's other name on the box, is something like stratus 5... Can't I just plug this into the Kenwood head unit and run it all thru there? From what I read there's something in the pamphlet that came with it about finding an unused local station and tune both to that station to broadcast Sirius they the existing speakers.... One of the things I like about Sirius is not having to search for a local station as I gain and lose signal as I drive in other areas. What if a frequency that isn't used here is, when we m out of my local area?

I also have another Sirius that's a year old.but I'm wanting to use that one on something else with a similar Kenwood head unit, also says Y21 on the sticker but the model number on the face is slightly different. (Don't have that one in front of me, it's in the garage) I have 2 vehicles I want to put these into. I have never opened the box on the year old Sirius head unit. Who can tell me what about these?
I've gotten spoiled with Sirius in my '12 truck. I never listen to local radio anymore when in there. And from the middle of Iowa to Ohio to Wisconsin and Michigan i never have to worry about losing the local channel and searching for a new station to listen to....

If your kenwood head unit has an ax input on the face like mine you won’t need the antenna. Just use the disc antenna and a ax input from Sirius radio to the head unit. I just have my satellite disc up on the dash so I can hide it at shows.

I know with our Sirius subscription that I get it thru my phone with the Sirius app. Truck has it too but less channels. Do Sirius thru your phone and Bluetooth(or thru cable) to your head unit.

you mean a USB? One of my 2 kenwoods has that the other one don't. The one with the USB also has a "pandora" sticker on it.
i have a (within 2 year old) cheapie Sony in the wife's durango that I absolutely HATE. Ive had other Sony's in the past but they werent like this one. It was in there from the PO, very recently installed just before we got it, basically forced to "SEEK" thereby passes up any station I want to listen to. Too hard to get it to stop where I want....
I actually picked up these 2 kenwood's at the local boneyard, they always have a front counter full of radio take outs.... these two are alot like the one we bought my son for Christmas a while back for his Ramcharger..... the experience with that radio, was why I grabbed these when I seen them. usually if I buy a radio its a Pioneer.
One of the only things I like about my '12 1/2 ton is it came with a stock Sirius radio and its spoiled me.

any idea if I can still activate that old 2008 Sirius unit?

Probably, but it would be limited in channel selection. Wifes 2015 has less channels then my 2017, which has less channels then the my phone.
A new unit would be cheapi bet if you don't wanna download phone app.

My kenwood has a aux input under the USB.

There's a few channels I wish I had, like when I first got hooked up to it "deep cuts" was a low number, now it's like 308 which I never have had much over half that high of channel number. . As long as I can get classic vinyl, the 70s and the 80s classic rock I don't really care about the rest. The individual band/artist channels, or any other kind of noise doesn't appeal to me anyway. As long as that old unit gets me those im good.
