I have a 65 barracuda formula S 4 speed car with a 273. What was the original rear diff ring and pinion gear ratio ??

3.23 was the most common, but, 3.55's and 3.91's were optional.

Here are the 65 Barracuda ratios (pretty sure Valiant and Dart are the same). Note that, according to this, 3.91 gears were not available. Also, no 3.55 Sure Grip.

What is your source for that information? I see 3.91's listed in the factory parts manuals for both 1963 and 1966.

I'm pretty sure that the page I posted is originally from Ross Roy literature. But I pulled my copy off Hamtramck Historical's website, which has this and other literature posted online. E.g., post #2 above.

However, I have the exact same page in an old paperback book of mine: Barracuda 1964-1969, a Book of Information (copyright 1984).

I did look at my 65 parts manual, Section 3-19-1, page 3-8, and it looks to me like in the 7 1/4 rear end, 3.91 gears are six cylinder only. V8's show 2.93 and 3.23 (I don't even see 3.55's here).

My 65 Barracuda Commando 273 4-speed originally had a 7 1/4 rear with 3.23 gears. I'm pretty sure that 8 3/4 rears weren't available in A bodies until sometime in the 66 model year.

I don't know that any of the above is the be all and end all, so will happily stand corrected if wrong (been wrong before).
