I sawed a hole in my old workbenchI've been reading through Tom Hand's book, the ATSG manual and j-par's 904 rebuild thread... Be nice to get that thing cleaned up from the stupid harassment throughout, but OK.
I think I have all the "tools" minus the homemade stuff that he used. I think I'm going to go with the threaded rod mount onto the engine stand. Seems handy to be able to rotate it around as needed.

All the vitamins and minerals an old guy needs..He believes it is a great oil for our old engines, and plenty of zinc for our flat tappets. Diesel oil has a very impressive additive package due to the extreme environments of diesel trucks and a lot of detergents and dispersants for the soot.
I'm not ready for that level of commitmentI sawed a hole in my old workbench![]()

Do you have the pokey that goes on the lug?
He's back under a new name. The third one that I'm aware of.BTW.. i was looking through some old posts last night for nfo and noticed ratbastid hasn't been around since 2023.... we lose another one or he just get mad and piss off?
Do you think what you saw in the pan bypassed the filer? So, lots of oil talks today. I had a long talk with an oils engineer here at work. He even sits on the board at SAE. Seems the sludge and metallic garbage may have been because I used Shell Rotella T. Diesel oil has much more detergent and dispursents in it. Likely cleaned ut up. Filter is clean.
That was a moving target fer sure as they were changing formulations and flavors; T1, T3, T4, T6.And Rotella is supposed to have enough ZDDP for flat tappet cams to live.

Not a bad guy. Just needs to remind himself that no one cane fix all the bad info out there. No point in getting mad about it.

IIRC the current formulation on some no longer states it meets the automobile gas engine "S" standards. Although its probbaly fine.
I was using the Ford Superduty diesel 10W-30 conventional on the Grand? Wagoneers engine for the first 10,00 miles or so. I had been using T6 5W-40 on the old engine. He believes it is a great oil for our old engines, and plenty of zinc for our flat tappets.
