They can be....but I feel they take their "lead" from their owner/handler. If he/she is uptight, the dog will sense this and act accordingly. Ours was pretty casual, as my ex-wife and I tried to keep our life low key.

Well did you ever walk into a cell block of a hundred of loud derelicts? That could explain it to. I know it made me nervous in the early years....then I became as loud as they were.
