Stop in for a cup of coffee

Wow... what size?

this one... it doesn't leave powder or trash your paint/wiring/aluminum...

I've been reading through Tom Hand's book, the ATSG manual and j-par's 904 rebuild thread... Be nice to get that thing cleaned up from the stupid harassment throughout, but OK.

I think I have all the "tools" minus the homemade stuff that he used. I think I'm going to go with the threaded rod mount onto the engine stand. Seems handy to be able to rotate it around as needed.

I sawed a hole in my old workbench

He believes it is a great oil for our old engines, and plenty of zinc for our flat tappets. Diesel oil has a very impressive additive package due to the extreme environments of diesel trucks and a lot of detergents and dispersants for the soot.
All the vitamins and minerals an old guy needs..

Morning, Afternoon!
Got distracted this morning.
The inch of snow pretty much melted all away yesterday. Got rad mount finished, and set engine back in. So now i fit exhaust flange and get to work on the tunnel issue. Its going to need a lot of work, as well as pulling rear end apart to do seals and all new brakes. Think i will tackle that next-month. Its going out gor a few weeks. I need to do simething different.

That's "Patina"

Looks nice

Do you have the pokey that goes on the lug?
No.
Almost bought one last month when ATF had some for about a Franklin.
Then of course I'd need the thing to store it in.
It would be cool but its another collector's minefield trying to figure out what was made or modified when, or if its a total fraud - I mean reproduction.
Mine was rebarrelled probably some time in the 50s, sold by CMP and used in one match at Camp Perry.

so someone asked me if evaporust works... figured i would post a pic.. this is my own mixture.. evaporust is too expensive..

Before... it wasn't super bad but enough that i couldn't scrap it off with my finger and thought it was pitted.. felt nasty.

Motor actually turns over fine now.. so that's good...

BTW.. i was looking through some old posts last night for nfo and noticed ratbastid hasn't been around since 2023.... we lose another one or he just get mad and piss off?
He's back under a new name. The third one that I'm aware of.
Not a bad guy. Just needs to remind himself that no one cane fix all the bad info out there. No point in getting mad about it.
So, lots of oil talks today. I had a long talk with an oils engineer here at work. He even sits on the board at SAE. Seems the sludge and metallic garbage may have been because I used Shell Rotella T. Diesel oil has much more detergent and dispursents in it. Likely cleaned ut up. Filter is clean.
Do you think what you saw in the pan bypassed the filer?
And Rotella is supposed to have enough ZDDP for flat tappet cams to live.
That was a moving target fer sure as they were changing formulations and flavors; T1, T3, T4, T6.
IIRC the current formulation on some no longer states it meets the automobile gas engine "S" standards. Although its probbaly fine.

ah thanks.. and yeah.. only 1 thing makes me mad on forums.. and bad info or arguing isn't it :)

I was using the Ford Superduty diesel 10W-30 conventional on the Grand? Wagoneers engine for the first 10,00 miles or so. I had been using T6 5W-40 on the old engine.
