Go to Harbor Freight for a cheap Honda look alike engine if you don't have your own laying around off a tiller or old weed mower. I don't know if you are thinking about racing nor do I know the drag racing rules for the cars. It would be cool with a V twin after your driver gets some experience.

AI overview. May be a V twin would be too fast.
AI Overview

Mini dragsters, known as Junior Dragsters, can reach speeds of up to 85 mph, with specific speed and elapsed time (ET) limits that are determined by the driver's age
. These half-scale cars are used in youth racing leagues, such as the NHRA Summit Racing Jr. Drag Racing League.
Speed limits for Junior Dragsters based on age:
  • 6–7 years old: 13.90 seconds or slower on the eighth-mile track.
  • 8–9 years old: 11.90 seconds or slower on the eighth-mile track.
  • 10–12 years old: 8.90 seconds or slower on the eighth-mile track, potentially reaching 70–75 mph.
  • 13–18 years old: 7.90 seconds or slower on the eighth-mile track, capable of reaching the maximum 85 mph speed.
Key facts about Junior Dragsters:
  • They are powered by a five-horsepower, single-cylinder engine.
  • While they can reach up to 85 mph, a new driver might start out at around 45 mph.
  • The racing is designed to be a safe and controlled environment for kids ages 5–17 to learn about drag racing.
  • Strict safety rules and regulations from organizations like the NHRA govern the sport.

Just a quick drive by. I spent all day yesterday doing Executive Protection gig again. It was a much better time than last one. Had to guard a gold medal Olympic gymnastics woman who was signing autographs. Folks brought her all kind of stuff to sign, it was nuts. One lady even brought in a balance beam for her to sign! She was super friendly and spent as much time with the young aspiring gymnastics girls as they wanted. She was very down to earth and nice. Not a bad gig!

Probably for starters I’ll use a cheap 3-4 hp harbor freight engine to get him used to the car. But that can come later as I need to have the frame blasted and sonic checked. Then re-certified by the NHRA.

Hey Frank, I know you do a lot of welding and was wondering if are using a wire feed or a stick welder for sheet metal?
I have a 110v stick welder that I've had for years and never used it till the other day to weld up some holes and I'm impressed how well it works on sheet metal.
