Stop in for a cup of coffee

Chris, you are both lucky and unlucky at the same time. You do have the worst luck sometimes......Those studs were over torqued...No question. NOW if they were to "factory" torque, makes no difference. They were still over tightened...At one time or another, might not have been you.....
Yeah I think so. Last one broke as we were trying to load it. Rim is toast

My window regulator, 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis, all I had to take apart is apart, need to clean up the inside of the door for metal shavings from drilling out the rivets, then the new parts go in.

Interesting to see where the new regulator was made.

The broken part was that the plastic part where the wire ends were fastened is broken so the wire came out and was just loose and hanging there. So, the regulator definitely needs to be replaced.

Red flag warning and again and more power shutoff, the eastern part of the city. I live on the western part, north west. Starting at noon today, and ends on Thursday hopefully.

yep, some torques are with lube. but not wheels. That tar goop sounds like something that might be good to paint on contact areas before mounting an aluminum wheels. They will corrode and make you wish it was only rusted fast.

I have no idea how pine tar interact with aluminum. In fact, I should probably never have said what I did, I will try to keep tricks and ideas to myself in the future. Such things are for large corporations only. I am an outspoken person, but I am slowly learning, it just takes time.

Say what you think. Just kicking ideas around. Sometimes thats how we find a better way to do things (or not, lol)

My wife called me extremely naive when we met. In some ways it is true. I grew up in a society where ideas Was not punishable if someone tried and hurt themselves. Here in the US you can walk up to a police officer and cal him whatever name you want, and read profanities over him. In Norway you can not do that. You will be punished for having offended him. But you can tell anyone you want about an idea you have and he go and try it and end up in a wheel chair. You can not be punished for that. On my property if it is not fenced anyone can walk there, there is no such things as trespassing. If he stumble in a rock or a tree root and break his foot, well too bad, but I as the owner of the land will not be punished for it. People are much more on their own there in that regard and have to be responsible for their own acts.Very little warning signs around telling you this and that is dangerous.

Sometimes I forget that and say something I regret a little later.

My wife says Norway is stagnant because people are suppressed because of socialist ideas. But I see something else that she does not see. The US is in some ways stagnant because lawyers here sue people for in my opinion something completely ridiculous. So, there always good things with an idea, but it can also come something negative out of it. Over the few years I have lived here I have changed quite a bit. I walk around in a constant fear all the time that something bad will happen to me, a fear I never had in Norway. It is like loosing absolutely all safety nets you have around you. So, you will probably see less and less from me when it comes to being an open person. I notice it myself every day.

Seem like life was easy going back home. Less stress i can tell. Even here in small town canada you have to be on your guard constantly. Even more now with this "Meth Crisis".
Break ins and theft are out of hand around here, seems like it will get worse before it gets better. If at all.

Anyone know where I can get upgraded lug studs?
Upgraded how? Just get the right thing and send your tire shop the bill. Lol. You may have torqued them since, but Id bet someone gunned them and the cracks had started. Of course you will never prove it. On the other hand if you had been seriously hurt it would be worth the investigation

Just need to consider your audience when speaking. Unless you have authority or put something out as ‘knowledgeable’ info, I don’t see a problem. As said we are just kicking ideas around. Not writing a ‘how to’. And maybe some of it is your zip code. Not saying some people aren't out to sue around here, but I'm not afraid to talk...

What happened to the page view on this site? Joey was doing some sort of test earlier and now I have an “Upcoming Car Shows and Events” box pinned to the upper right in every thread and forum cutting the viewable area of the replies to half width. All the pictures are equally resized to half size.

The stress level here and there is like night and day. That said, I moved here when I was 51, that means other 51 year olds who have lived here all their life has a lot of knowledge, they know the laws, rules, and if they don't know it is a law, they live their lives because it has become a habit, this is how we do it. Often based on the law, but people don't think about it. It has become natural. So, my stress level is several times higher than it had to be if I knew everything. By default I can be a bit pessimistic, so it does not take much for me to think I will be arrested tomorrow. And with all the fake phone calls from individuals telling they are from IRS or some other federal agency and that there is a warrant for me, no wonder I get paranoid from time to time. :D

I think a lot tell you 90-100, but just found this on Tire Racks site.

*If you cannot find the vehicle manufacturer's recommended torque spec, you can use the following as a guide.

Hardware Bolt or Stud Size Typical Torque Range in Ft/Lbs
12 x 1.5 mm 70 - 80
12 x 1.25 mm 70 - 80
14 x 1.5 mm 85 - 90
14 x 1.25 mm 85 - 90
7/16 in. 70 - 80
1/2 in. 75 - 85
9/16 in. 135 - 145
So I’m gonna use your chart, 1/2-20 are the studs. I’ll torque them to 75

He means what you experience in the area where you live is different that what other may experience where they live. Saying “in your zip code” is the same as saying “in the area where you live”.

oh, sort of slang ? :D I learn some of that too. My mother in law was born in Oklahoma, and came here during the dust ball. So, my wife has a little different vocabulary from the "regular" Californian. And we have a little fun about that. And then we add a little Norwegian into it, and laugh until the tears come.

The first time my wife came to Norway, and we drove home, oh my. There has been an ongoing campaign for using seat belts, with large permanent signs, like a huge poster with a person sitting in the car with a seat belt on, and one half of the picture is clear and the other is blurry. It is sort of meant that if you drive too fast your vision will get blurry. Anyway, at the bottom of the sign is says "The speed kills". But, in Norwegian, and that is "Farten dreper". And my wife saw these signs, from time to time they showed up, and wondered what on earth we were talking about... but found it too embarrassing to ask what it meant. Finally she asked, not what the words meant, but what the signs was for. LOL Well, I got the picture, and told her, and also told her that the word "speed" in English is "fart" in Norwegian.

And, the entire thing can be changed and enhanced a bit, using the word "smell". Smell in Norwegian means "bang", a loud noise. So, it has for a long been: It is not the fart that kills, but the smell. It is not the speed that kills, but the bang, or sudden stop.

Languages are fun.
