Black Ghost: The mysterious 1970 Challenger that dominated Detroit street racing

Gregory, and his son, bring the car out once in a while. Here it is at the 2019 Clinton Township (MI) Gratiot Avenue Cruise. Gregory is also a member of our club, the Twisted Axle Car Club (check our Facebook page).

True.
Saw the car in the survival tent in Carlisle a few years ago, it was a bit rough. But had a great life.

Thanks Al!!! I watched the whole video and it made my day. What a great story.

Saw this yrs ago, if IIRC, it was stock, 70 model.
Motor Trend Tested one @14.0,
70 LS6 Chevelle 13.8.
70 Buick GSX Stage Il, @13.2
I find it hard to believe that it blew everything else away.
Such is the stuff If legends.......

Depends on the skill of the driver.
OK, Ill bite,

It's also a proven fact that manufacturers "tweaked" their cars for media purposes.

Of course, they were all tweaked, thats a given. Even if the Ghost was tweaked, I dont see 100 hp difference.(1/10 sec per 10 hp),
13.0 vs 14.0 sec

Don’t underestimate the power of Mopars. Here is my dads car, straight off the truck it was running 12:30 in the quarter, on bias ply H-70-14 tires. Here’s his time slip from Summernationals in 1970. Oh yeah, it’s a convertible 6bbl car, 4:10 4 speed. A heavy car to be running those times, but it’s true. Had Godfrey come over to Telegraph Rd., where my dad had his fun, he would’ve had his hands full racing Dads car. It was one of a kind.

Were all three tests by Motor Trend?

Motor Trend was very 'conservative', as far I know - they don't touch/optimize anything on the car and had always two adults on board...

It was fully assembled and running in Carlisle PA, in 2018.
See post #6.

Street racing you can pick your opponent wisely and win every time, it's not so much about how fast your car is.
I guess I can see that. Get a punk *** kid out stoned in his Daddys Muscle car, and he'll probably blow off the rear tires, or get out of it...

OK, whatever you say.
Driver skill does not equal more horse power. Superior power to weight ratio and Traction are where its at.

From what I remember of street racing in the 70s I loved racing big block 4 speed cars, those G/70/14 s
Would smoke so hard....lol
