After weeks of waiting patiently, sort of, StuBBle has left the field. I chose his name because aside from that being the first pic I saw, I’m pretty sure the last days as a driver were as a stubble jumper! Pretty great shape over all. Fairly straight. Less than typical rust. But the floor has some indicators, along with one dented frame rail, that it had some fun times! I’m pretty happy with the car, and surprisingly so is the wife!
The fellow I got it from is an excellent fellow. He has some really nice 860hp aluminum hemi cars and a beautiful shop. So a couple beers later, and looking at a bunch of cool stuff, we loaded Stubble up and headed home. I could have spent hours visiting.....I plan on it some day!
Tonight I got him into his new home. The goal is to convert a pretty basic Sebring and clone it into a GTX. I got a parts car with A/C, power windows, floor shift column, the shifter and the mounts for that. We’ll see how far we go. Pondering 440 / 4 speed, but auto would be way easier, and I have all that.

He may have had some race history as there are a few stickers indicating performance.
The license plate on it says 1989 so it has been off the road for a while and potentially only lived on the road for 18 years.

A little play time this evening straightening up a couple little spots.
He definitely lost the battle to a couple fence posts. Lightly though. A few minutes with a hammer and 4 spots are looking better!

I guess I should have stated it is a 1971 Plymouth Satellite Sebring. It has really only a couple options. It has the fender top signal lights, an AM radio, rear window defrost, full black vinyl roof, B5 exterior, B7 / B5 interior, remote driver side chrome mirror, power disc brakes, power steering and a 383 2bbl. The 383 meant that it got a 727 and 8 3/4 differential. I think the interior may have been an upgrade as well with the rectangle pattern on the door panels but I'm not sure about that one.

Something fell on the roof and trunk of StuBBle at some point in his life. The trunk lid was damaged beyond worth. But the parts car had a great one. No rust. Just some wrongly drilled holes from a wing. Fits pretty good for a couple hours worth of body work. The drivers quarter needed to be massaged outward an 1/8 or so, but it’s already better than pushing it all down like they did in the past.
I love making a car whole again!

I’m really really good at not taking pictures before I start a job! Then about half way through I think about it. So I said StuBBle did some stubble jumping near the end of his life. It wasn’t the end because they puttied it up and kept driving him. Anyway, the front rail in the passenger side was crunched and pushed up. It didn’t carry into the body because the door still closes like brand new. But it bent the inner fender, the floor and the surrounding mounts. Well, after I disconnected the rail from the torsion bar cross member, I rigged up a heavy piece of tubing and a couple jacks and a bar and a jack stand and a few hammers and went to work. I will need a new rail or if I can find a piece I will just section it in. Here are some pics of the task. Basically at the end of it though! Damn it!

Man I love having a parts car. I already used the trunk lid. Now I just grabbed the bucket seat support plates, slap stick mounts and shifter. It will donate the rear floor pan as well. Good thing, they are currently unavailable from AMD. Then the……. :)

But one of the coolest things I have ever found in a car is this. A completely unmarked fender tag. It was under the driver side carpet. WTH?

I think I might use it on this clone!
Special order car. No specified options. Things just randomly installed as it rolled down the line!

Great Story with an awesome car! Love seeing you get to work on it that
quickly. I would love to see a 420 plus cubic inch small block with W5 heads in that!

Nice find!

The 383/727 didn't trigger the 8 3/4" though. I've got a '71 Satellite Sebring Plus as well, 383/727 with an 8.25" rear end. This one was originally Winchester gray, GA4.

Thank you. It started many months back, but winter and work held the meeting off until last week when we were both home at the same time. We came to an agreed price a few days after I saw it and the road trip was planned. That is always the best part for me. I love going to recover and haul home a project. Thank you. That is good to know. I just presumed that the engine would dictate the drivetrain for the most part. Thank you for educating me. Learn something new everyday, or it is a dull day.

Nice George! You’re just the right owner for that car. Be awesome when done! If you still haven’t found engine mounts for when the time comes let me know, maybe I’ll loosen my grip on my last set…
have you thought of a modern engine conversion and overdrive trani?

fender tag is cool

I have available a slapstick shifter with linkage rod for that application too. Does your parts car have one?

Thanks Steve. My plan to install the 1970 440 I have here. It does have the mounts on it. It will be the easiest way to get it going. Nothing is chiseled into granite yet though! The parts car came with the original 400 / auto trans so everything I need is there.
