Summit headers?

I am looking into replacing my hedman headers with some ceramic coated. Going cheapo and would like to know who makes the summit headers and has anyone used them. I am begging that you do not mention tti or dougs any where in this thread,Thank Kevin.

I have the summit headers (non coated).

and they seem to be nice headers.

but I want to say (not positive here) that they are basically the same thing as a set of headmans ....so if your looking to change them out because you don't like the design of your current ones or something than you may find that your getting into about the same thing.

biggest thing that drew me towards buying them was the price! they were priced very reasonable and I do not see the sense in spending a grand on a set of headers (personally) ....so I went summit brand.

they don't appear to hang that low at all like I have seen alot of other complain about....I don't think I will worry about denting them in unless I hit a speed bump going to fast.

the quality of the headers isnt "perfect" but for what I paid....its not bad.

by not perfect I mean.....there was some weld spatter around the flanges and what not...most high end companies would take the extra time to "clean up" the product a bit more prior to shipping them out (they may make the coated headers with a cleaner finish being that they go through additional processing though!).

they were not a "perfect" fit in my 72 duster....but then again each car will be SLIGHTLY different from the other depending on position of the motor mounts and if they are worn out and size of torsion bars and if that car has ever been in a bender before and got tweaks and so on and so forth.

I had to hammer in a couple of my tubes just a smidge to get enough clearance to clear my front sub frame to where I felt comfortable enough that I wouldnt be smacking the headers against it when I reved the engine or have them rattling against each other.....and it went smoothly and worked great ....but like I said, each set of headers and each car might be slightly different so you may have more troubles or no troubles...who knows.

I am sure alot of people will say to go with the better brands that you mentioned NOT to mention.....and sure...they are better and may last a bit longer. But I think for being on a budget that summits are just fine.

I have yet to put miles on the duster so I cant say how well they hold up or if there are any problems with bottoming out but it LOOKS like (atleast on mine) that I have PLENTY of clearance .

I've had both Hedman and Summit longtubes on my 70. Currently it is wearing the Summit brand. As far as I can remember of the Hedman's they were the same as the Summit's. I didn't have to ding anything to make them fit, but ground clearance isn't all that great.

we put a set of summit longs non coated on my 318 a little im sorry kind of a lot difficult to get to fit the 74 swinger but once they where on I like them plus for the price you cant go wrong

i have the summit headers in my '73 with a 360. Didn't have to bang or modify anything, fits fine with power steering.

Oh yeah, I have more room because I have a manual steering box on my 70.

I'm with Dusterdude, I purchased the Summit headers and installed them on my smallblock in my Dart Sport. I did have to ding the tube slightly by the steering shaft. It's kind of a pain putting headers on an A body, but I installed mine in about the same time as another car I know with the more expensive headers. As far as ground clearance I have had no issues. I thought the overall quality is very good considering I spent 110 bucks on headers.

I was very happy with mine in m 71 dart, the fit was pretty good, & the quality for the price was even better (105.00), I still don't see how some of you are having ground clearance issues, i had about 5" on the DS tubes & never an issue, tires were 14" too & about 25+"s tall, you guys must be taking them off road LOL.

I have them on my 67 Dart. I had them sand blasted, then I primed them with hight temp primer and then coated them with high temp paint. Installation was about the same as other headers where you have to unbolt the motor mounts and jack up the engine to slide them into place. I have manual steering and the tubes are about 1/8" from the steering. They hang pretty low as well. I had to crank up the front suspension to keep from dragging them over speed bumps.

Well I ordered the summit coated headers and got them yesterday could not be happier considering the price. They are patriot brand. Glad I got them,Kevin.
