Super shock shifter should I use it or sell it.
I have an original 68 super stock shifter with cable and harness.
So I thought about using the shifter or selling to help with the cost on my build.
My car is not a 100%. My car change direction through the build, was going to be a 440 but know adding a Hemi with HDK And the Hemi hood(picking up at Carlisle).
The shifter is really is not the easiest to use for the street.

That's a Hurst Dual Gate, also referred to as a "His and Hers" Shifter. I was not aware they were ever offered in a Mopar. I know they were offered as factory equipment on Buicks, Pontiacs and Oldsmobiles, but I've never seen anything about them in a Mopar.

Course, that sure doesn't mean anything. LOL

Rusty, didnt the GTO offer a His/Hers shifter that also changed the modulator pressure? My SC has that "PWR" and "ECO". Just changes shift RPM and engagement as its an electronic controlled trans.

Are you sure that is a shifter that would have been found in a 68 Super Stock???

      Pishta,
You are correct, Pontiac had plenty of them in the GTO.

      I see a 68 Barracuda and a Hemi in a 68 dart.

Is the Barracuda yours? Is that exact dressed motor going into your Barracuda?

I'm looking for consistency of theme and consistent level of theme.

I see the white headrest buckets and white interior vs A-100 van seats and black interior as a much more impactful personalization than the Hurst shifter. As you can see from the responses the Hurst shifter detail is not something a causal fan picks up on.

Are you running those prostar rims, and wheel lip moldings?

I see the shifter as a finer level detail item than other personalizations. On top of that, you are not thrilled with operation of it... So sell it off.

Yes That is the correct shifter for the 68 HEM Barracuda and Darts with a Chrysler harness for that shifter. super hard to find especially the cable and harness. They are mounted on the side of the trans tunnel not on the center of the trans tunnel.
yes that is the motor going in my car and changing the hood, nothing else will be (cloned) The rest is my look.

Yes used on the Hurst factory Hemi automatic cars. Just like the Hurst 4 speed used, not the same as production ones

Yes. But the mechanism assy was used on producton Pontiacs and Oldsmobiles as an option. Maybe some different bolt on brackets, but not hard at all to make.

And you can get a new cable I thought. Are they red only or does hurst still make a black one. You can run black electrical heat shrink over the red to make it black.

They repro the chrome top plate with wood grain through GM resto parts places for pretty reasonable IIRC.

And someone makes the black console around it all. On eBay IIRC?.

Unless you need the money put it in the car...... That is a great item and good on you to have it.... I personally think that it really makes the build unique.

I thought the 66-70-ish GTO Oldsmobile dual gates look and function the same for parts not covered by the console cover?

I would hold on to it! It will be worth more tomorrow than today. You know those SS cars are being restored to original more than not for the increased value. With the known number produced how many have you seen still in use?

The mounting bracket is the real hard part to find......that one looks real to me. Cool thing is the wiring harness connector looks Chrysler.......not GM. Nice piece!!
