Serious question and I admit I am not always serious.

My mother was hot natured, I can also sweat like a Russian racehorse ( they sweat a lot). Genetic I guess. I am 71, had a triple bypass , will be 2 years this Sept. SE Tx is hot and humid and not enough wind generally.
I have always heard that as you get older harder to take the heat. I am in and out of it all day, doing what I want to do. I get wringing soaked, and go cool off. Just wondering is the blood thinner, and blood pressure meds has something to do with it or just what it is?
I don't intend to cash in my chips in the easy chair watching re runs of RoadKill!

It’s unlikely related to the meds, but it wouldn’t hurt to mention it to your Doc anyway.

The biggest issue is just remembering to constantly replenish the fluids and electrolytes you lose from heavy sweating.

Keep your body hydrated old man lol. Humans dry out like beef jerky as they age.
Drink at least 72 oz of water during course of routine day. More if you are seriously active.

As you age you lose efficiency with body temperature regulation. It’s a lot of different things though. Thyroid function, the ability of the blood vessels and capillaries to dilate and constrict even lung function (because you breathe out warm air) all play a part. Losing elasticity in your vessels is a big part of it.

And yes, medications absolutely play a part in that, some more than others. Blood pressure medications can have a big effect though, because again those are in part controlling how your vessels dilate or how fast your heart can go to compensate, depending on the med. All of them play a part in general, but some blood pressure medications have a larger effect on heat tolerance than others. If your blood vessels are already dilated, and then you go out into the heat, your body has one less option for heat control.

If it’s bothering you, it’s worth talking to your doctor. Your meds may be at least partly to blame and that could be an easy fix.

My experience is opposite of yours @barbee6043. I'm 55, not on any meds. I grew up in Pennsylvania and have always been hot natured, a sweater, for sure. For the past year I've been working in a textile mill where is always HOT. Now I feel like I can handle the heat better than ever. Part of my being hot natured all those years was feeling restricted wearing tight fitting clothing such as the dress uniform while serving in the Air Force for 21 years. Now I wear jeans and a polo shirt to work!!

When I was put on blood pressure meds, ended up on Losaritin (sp?) I was told to take it in the morning....and drink plenty of fluids thru out the day as it is a diuretic. I do know I started sweating more when I started taking it...but we lived in the desert and seat is just a way of life....

I am on a pile of meds after my heart attack. blood thinners are just part of the mix. I always ran warm, would be in shorts while my wife was in flannel pajamas & a robe. since the meds I am usually as cold, takes quite a bit for me to feel warm now. once I'm cold it takes forever to get warm again.

I see the cardologist every six months.
I go to bed under the AC and her fans and I freeze till I warm up! I know I don't drink enough water, never could. I can drink PowerAide but gosh the sugar consumed. If I had a triple bypass, I have to wonder what shape the rest of my arteries are in !! Oh well.
Yes I need to discuss it all with the doc next trip and not just say: " No chest pains." He says " good, see ya next trip, pay the girl up front!".
I have been somewhat short of breath for years. Never smoked.

You can get non sugar water sweeteners. All it takes is a few drops to make your water taste good. Helps me drink more if i have some different flavors to choose from. Heres what i use. The orange i use has electrolytes. I keep two 1 gallon jugs of water in my shop fridge.

The average human is comprised of 60 to 75% water. Your body needs water replenishment especially as we age.
Please everyone drink at last 72 oz of water a day.
If you have not done this over the yrs. be patient as it takes time for body to adjust., Please hydrate for a longer life.

When I was out in the hi desert, it was a little hotter than here in Okla., "118 three times" , closer to the sun by about 2400 feet or so , was dryer than he-- , sweat wouldn`t even show unless u were really physically busting ur ass. Here I have set in the shade , drinking ice tea and sweated my ass off. Hasn`t been any where near that bad this year, --RAIN out the ass ! Flooding , cloudy , and more predicted.

I don't think about how much I`m drinking most of the time till I start feeling puny. I have switched to Gatoraid zero , "orange" , tastes about the same and still works for me ------

Wish we would get some rain up here...should not complain, no local fires as of yet, least not big ones. Think we have only been in the high 80's a few times. Think it is 85* today. But cools off at night so all is well. When we lived in AZ I was drinking a bit over 2 gallons of water a day. Don't drink nowhere near enough water anymore.

For a while I was determined to try and control my mental health crap with meds. Being bipolar if all I take is an anti-depressant it puts me into a manic state. Doc decided to try to put me on Lithium...but was very concerned because of how much I sweat. He warned me that my water intake may need to go up. I was about half way to the "therapeutic state" when he pulled me off of it. Was drinking over 4 gallons of water a day. Seemed like I was pissing and drinking at the same time. Had to add electrolytes to the water. He was worried about me becoming "salt toxic", think that is what he called it.

Today, low 90's, and humidity was low like 40%, usually 90% or better, and had a good wind sort of like being in central Tx hill country. Hardly broke a sweat, hardly. I will drink quite a bit of coffee in AM but hard to ever drink enough water. I will try some of the gator aide mix you can add to water maybe. I could drink 2 big bottles of the stuff on a hot sweaty day, but $60 a month for the stuff ain't on my plate! Water is free in the country!

You can make your own equivalent to Gatorade for less than 25 cents per quart. It also only has 56 calories per 8 oz serving.

Ingredients: (recipe is measured for ONE QUART of sports drink)

                  • 1/4 cup orange juice
                  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
                  • 1/4 tsp kosher or sea salt (do not use regular table salt)
                  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
                  • water
To Prepare: Put salt and sugar into 1 cup water and stir. Microwave mixture for one minute – stir again to dissolve completely. Add mixture along with the orange juice and lemon juice to a 32 oz bottle and then fill to the top with cold water. Shake to mix and chill as desired. (Note: many Gatorade bottles are one quart, so they are perfect to refill with this)

If you think about it you guys down south are burning up in the summer and we up north are around 70* most of the summer but winter sucks up here around 10 below or worse.
Would be nice to work out a plan to help each other out.

                  I got two what-ifs for ya;
                  1) what if the sun is not 93 million miles away, and
                  2) what if the Bible is right, about the sun getting hotter as introduction to the " the end of the age"
I know the sun feels hotter to me as well, and so far this year, we have only hit 90s on a couple of occasions.
For the past several years my wife has been on fire; I can't sleep in the same bed anymore.
I sleep under the same thick blanket summer and winter....... cuz the house is at the same temperature summer and winter, lol. She likes 64 and I like 70*.
I did an impromptu poll last summer, and for the most part, similar-aged,non-drug users like myself, were all finding the heat more oppressive than in previous years. I police our municipal landfill site twice a week, so over the course of a year, I might see 400 people ( no I don't recall all their names, but I do recognize all their faces), that all reside in this 144 sq mile municipality. I probably polled 10% of them, all about my age,66 as of yesterday.

I am a rain maker. Always have been. Red faced and continuous sprinkler! If you were watching me work you would wonder where the hell that stream is running from. Even today, only 24*C, making puddles! Now that was on a tin roof, but I do that regardless. All I do and have ever done is replenish. Drink lots of water. This job particular supplies Gatorade, but I usually only do water. Some of us just don’t do well with temp.......that’s me. If I could find a place that was 69*F all year, I’d be good with that. But I guess or now I’ll just keep watering the earth.

Here in SE Tx we go to bed, the AC is blowing, ceiling fan and another fan that blows like a hurricane ( big hurricane). I freeze for about 5 minutes. The blood thinner makes me cold I guess so you would think I would d better in the heat and humidity!
Now I read where UV rays are causing heart palpulations or whatever they call it now!

I have come close to dying a few times in my life, I guess the Good Lord put my name in the Book of Life a little further down. Hardly no one is ready to go, but I have had a good life.... just wish I had been better human.
