The wait is over! Just got a call from Mark and he said he and his wife crunched the numbers and with his wife's medical bills from her pregnancy, he must pass on the car. I have had several PM's from members offering to buy the car should he pass. We'll see what happens.

Oh well. At least he has a happy reason for needing to pass.
If I had to guess, Mark will be back when the smoke clears from the medical bills...so if nobody here buys it, this will probably come back around.

Good luck with the sale. If nothing else, the previous owner may have saved a car that would have remained untouched for years to come.

Got a telephone call this afternoon that blew me away.

Gentleman calls and asks "Would you be so and so."

Me: "Yes I am" (thinking this is someone asking for donations for Hurricane Relief or selling something)

Caller: "Are you into Mopars"

Me (to myself that's an odd question): "Yes I am"

Caller: " would you happen to own a 65 Barracuda?"

Me: "as a matter-of-fact, I do.

Caller: Did you happen to buy it from a college guy in Indiana around 2004 or so?"

Me (OMG!): "Yes"

Caller: "I'm the guy you bought it from!"

The rest of the lengthy conversation is about the car (which hasn't changed since I bought it), the motor with very little oil pressure, the interior he had done and installed it himself as a 17 year old. He told me it was his first car, bought when he was 14 1/2 before he even had a licence! He told me that he was the only 15 year old that he knew who that asked for and got a new carpet kit that Christmas for his car! Even with the low oil pressure problem, he drove it and when coming to a stop, kept the revs up so the oil pressure light would stay off. He sold it to me in mid 2004 as he needed money for college tuition and books. He's now 34 and the auto shop teacher in his high school. He broached the possibility of buying it back since it was his first car. I offered to send a few pics to him which I've done. It should bring the memories back as it's exactly the way I received it, right down to the light purple driver's fender (apparently he suffered a minor fender bender with it)! My wife thinks I ought to sell it back to him as she feels I'll probably never get to it with the wagon and 47 on my plate! And FABO says!

Here's a couple of pics of said 65 Barracuda:View attachment 1715090734

Hey Don- We;re not getting any younger- You already have projects to keep you buys- I say sell it......

Hi Gib - put it up for sale yesterday!

And I've been agonizing over it ever since! LOL. It's 396 miles away, which is fine....but as much as I have to spend is a little short of what you need for it. :( I didn't want to sound like a low baller(which I despise) so I have had to make myself not inquire.

Just a guess, but I would speculate that the email that seemed open ended and said "will call in a few days" was due to the original owner knowing it was an uphill battle to buy the car back and hoping a couple of days would see a change. This is based on the final "after talking it over with the wife..." response. I could see the wife not wanting him to buy it, certainly with a new baby recently arrived or on the way, and even more with medical bills looming. It would be a pretty large unknown to bring the car back home, and if it required money in addition to travel, I could see it just being easier for her to ask him not to do it.

I would commend the guy for working with his wife on this. I know for a fact that sometimes, even when the wife says "OK", she really doesn't mean it and while some wives won't use it to get back at you, it still brings a stress into the relationship that would be better without it.

Too bad it couldn't work out, but sometimes it is better to leave sleeping dragons alone.

Don, you're an honest and stand up guy! I saw where you closed the for sale ad, and why. I had pretty much made up my mind to get it if the local guy to you backed out. You didn't take the easy way out, and as hard as it is to see a car that appears to be pretty nice get parted out.....you did the right thing. I hope it all sells well, and I'm sure your inbox is probably already full with requests for the floor hump and pedals...lol. Best of luck with the sale.

Hi Jackie! I could not in good conscience sell this car with what I found out about it. I've read about other's horror stories with cars they've bought and I bet one of them would have been me if I had dove into the car right after I got it. I wasn't going to do it to someone else!

I suppose a lot of this stuff will have a lot of interest once I post the ad. Will just have to find the time to pull parts - wife says pull everything and get the hulk out of here - good advice as usual from her.
