Yep. It is proper.
I attribute the easy start to several things:
It was warmed up (altho one pump and it starts cold at 70 degrees and runs great on the electric choke AVS 800)
The carb, I adjusted the curb idle using a vacuum gauge. The carb is worth its weight in pot metal (it's actually perfect for zero maintenance).
It has a Mr Gasket 12s micro elect fuel pump from napa. Will easily provide supply for a no load motor. So that will prevent all the bullshi* associated with boiled out carbs. Flip the switch and instantly full fuel bowls.
The whole simple electrical system has properly sized wires so full power is at the ignition and starter. It is a 70s HEI with a .6 ohm coil at 12V no ballast.
It has a mild cam and low compression. Spins like it has no plugs in it and the timing does not affect it's ability to spin.
