Did the TF 999 have any external case markings or ID numbers. Is the TF999 all that much better than a TF998 ? I would prefer a "Lockup" trans. For better mpg and less heat.
What years ? and what models? should I look at ?

The lockup version 999 from the mid to late 80,s were the strongest versions made. I use these exclusively for my drag car by eliminating the lockup feature. The 999 has the desire able 5 clutch front drum.
It also has many small subtle refinements over the 998 including 4 pinion steel planetary gear sets, and a beefed up low reverse drum.
Also comes with the 2.74 low gear set. If you want the lockup feature it should be ideal for you. Look in mid 80,s full size cars with v8 engine.

Thanks. I think I've found one 1986 2WD 318 Ramcharger (not yet sure if it is LU)
