When Jacob (21) was a toddler, among many large words he couldn't pronounce "helicopter" . Funny thing is his little brother, Joshua (10), count either. The both pronounced it as "heckeltoctor" . Their little sister, Jessica (7), never had a problem with it.... I figured it's because girls are naturally more wordy.

However, Jessica wanted a "family size" cookie one day a few years ago. I had grabbed a cookie or 2 from the pantry, she saw me eating and said she didn't want the cookies I had, she wanted a family size cookie. Told her she had to show me what she meant, because we only had Oreos and Chips Ahoy in there. She led in by my hand, had me get the basket down and said she wanted one of these ones.... LOL. Gave her one and she was happy.

I had a young cousin who had a problem with the letter T. Always used an F
One day he was about 4 and A Fire Engine went past siren blasting.

My aunt was mortified as he was so excited to see it, and all he could yell was.
Look mom ,a Fruck, a Fruck. Look at the Fruck.

When my daughter was first learning to talk, we were in the car and my wife asked her if she wanted some chicken nuggets for lunch. My daughter said yes.

Then my wife asked her if she wanted them from McDonald’s or Wendy's.

She thought about it for a few seconds and then she said “E I, E I, Oh!”

Ever since then, we call it “Old McDonald’s”

My great-aunt Gertrude was a school teacher and a spinster. Being the fact she never married, she left me some "inheritance" money which is funding a large part of my restorations. She died when I was five years-old. I never could pronounce her name, for me she was always aunt Doo-Doo (or maybe spell it Dew-Dew).

I was born with a neat freak gene. First time at the beach as a toddler, I would not leave my blanket and kept calling out "dit, dit, dit" (the word I used for dirt).

The current tongue-twister I am struggling with is the eight syllable Spanish word for water-proof coating:
          im-per-me-a-bi-li-zan-te

          My nephew, about 4 years old having breakfast with my dad;

My mom had an older brother named Butch.

She pronounced it 'Butts' & it was a nick-name that he still has, over 7 decades later.

A pal (Heather) ran a day care.

One day she heard a young boy saying the alphabet & he got to M N O Yellow P...........

So she corrected him. Well she tried too, to no avail.

Frustrated with her, he pointed to the wallpaper Alphabet border running around the top of the room.

              He said........

              "Heather! The P is yellow!"

              He was right.

Watching a BatMan movie when it first came out (Batman: The Movie 1966), there was some kind of contraption/machine/weapon in the Bat Cave with a name label attached. The word had multi-syllables. I read the word aloud, placing the accent on the wrong syllable. My best guy friend (sitting with me) corrected me.

When my brother was little he would say f for s.
Well you can guess what he said
                When he wanted a sucker.
My mom taught him to say lollipop instead.

Cyrus called chickens "bops" for the longest time.

Took my forever to understand why he called the "bops."

It was his way of saying the "Bock, Bock" sound of a chicken. Therefore, chickens were "bops."

It's funny. He called apples, "bapples."

His little brother calls them "dapples."

When real young I called black persons "Umbars". I must have seen a movie about that time showing the native African warriors chanting with their spears in hand saying "umba, umba, umba". We did not have any Umbars living on my street at the time. Found a song which includes umba, umba in the chorus:

When I was a kid I used to call the old Land Rovers “daktari” after seeing them on the old TV show.

In grade school a classmate called me "whore" for awhile, until his mother told him to never say that again. We had learned how to say our names in Spanish, and he was calling me Jorge, at first. Then, not knowing any better, he shortened it to just "Jor', which sounds exactly like whore.

I don't remember the show Daktari, must have been broadcast the same day/time as "Combat" or something.

A bit of a reverse from the Jorge tale above.

A couple back home named their little girl Puta.

The mother had heard it somewhere & thought it sounded 'cute'.

It was on Tuedays at 7 pm and was popular enough to be tied in the Nielsen ratings with Bewitched and the Beverly Hillbillies during the 1966-1966 TV season.

My late husband took our daughter, about 4 years old, to a "travel and tourism" show with him and she saw a picture of a turkey. She tried to say Gobble gobble gobble for the turkey sound but instead she started saying "DOBBLE DOBBLE DOBBLE" for the sound. He came home with a bunch of free stuff from the vendors that day lol.

My daughter Sabrina who is 17 now but when see was in the 5th grade she started music and the instrument of choice was the trumpet. Well long story short, she is at home practicing for about an hour just making this horrendous noise, she comes out of her bedroom and proudly states "I just started and I'm already good". Her mom and I still don't let her live that moment and one sentence down. Comes up quite often when she is trying something out for the first time.

Had kinda the same thing happen in reverse.

"Daddy was just giving Mommy kisses."

When jake was little, he used to tell us the next morning that he could hear my wife and I tickling each other the night before. Josh says he hears us wrestling Sometimes.

our boy was 3 or 4 when he walked in on me and the wife
we were under the blankets, and he jumped on top of me and said "i want a piggy back ride too"

When the kids were small, almost 35 years ago I used to work construction. Frequently my wife had to remind me to watch my "colorful" language around them. Our youngest boy Steven was about 2 and at that age where only his parents could understand what he said. Christmas that year the whole family all gathered for dinner. As my Dad finished the prayer Steven's voice rang out loud and very clear. "Grampa, please pass the F@#king salt"!
