The Demon is finally getting used

Fiberglass Dash came today. Its a real nice light piece.

. Motor and trans are done. He is ordering 12 inch bead locks so we can narrow the housing to fit. We are going with steel tubs. I can't wait for paint on it. We decided "Black" no taping. Glass doors are here waiting for the lexan and the mounting kits. Ordered the Deck lid.

Seat came and Steve was fitting and cutting on the car . Waiting for drop spindles and steel tubs . Mike and a friend stopped in for some parts. Offered him wheels that came with the Valiant. New never on a car they could come with a air cleaner but I didn't hear an offer. LOL. Mike you should have taken them and paid me later. 10's with 6 inch BS and 4's for the front. Nitto drag radials stickers still on all the tires. I gave $700 extra for all with the Valiant they are not needed . I just thought someone would want them thats mini tubbing an A-body. The rear tires and wheels are $700 at Summit. fronts are $450 They could come with a free air cleaner.Mike LOL.

Walked to the garage and he was working on it again today. drilling and tig welding supports on the spring boxes. He also found the original hanger welded in the car were 3/8's difference. If the springs were mounted at these locations someone would have had to hold the quarter while doing a burnout. On a launch it would have went left.

I also got a picture of the axle from the dragster. Broke the driveshaft and gear set. Check out what it did to the axle.

Making a fixture to install rear rail at there factory location. This will also place an inboard kit square in the car.

One fixture for both sides that can be moved using predrilled holes for both locations. The frame pin in the forward posts will locate front and back. The second single post will locate side distance and inboard kit location. He made the boxes with 1 inch spread on the holes in a mill to raise and lower the car and the post has a bushing that fits the box precice inside. The sliders will also be adjustable in 1 inch height increments.

I'll be going back down and take pics of most recent progress.

wait a minute................you never that about an air cleaner?? LOL for anyone interested those wheels and tires are new and really nice!!

the 2 inch drop spindles came. The race brakes fit with no problem. We test fitted to get the ride height at 14.5 shock length This is where the tires will be. Ordering a one piece front clip from glasstech. Everything is one piece . This way we don't need the fender wells or rad support. Big weight loss.

Some weight gains. Bumper and doors

Bumper was 4# vs. 17#
Door was 16# vs. around 65# empty The scale was to low I will get a more accurate reading later

The dash I will weigh the difference when I get a steel one out with no harness or cluster. We are using all glass parts so I'll get the differences as they come out.

I believe the one piece nose and doors will be the most. weight loss.

So steve what are you going to have to weigh to get junior out of the seat??? LOL

So steve what are you going to have to weigh to get junior out of the seat??? LOL

A lot less then I do. But I am on a "See food diet"

Its not the weight I am concerned about. Its the cattle gate I want installed so I can get in . Thats one thing we can't come to an agreement on.

Well my son decided the car was not low enough in the rear with the tall tires . He is moving the rails up 3 inches. This will also give room to mount the shocks straight up and down in front of the rear and install an anti roll bar

So it will be easier for u to get in it right?? I say dad gets to drive first!

Mike. I decided to keep total weight down to a minimum when I drive so I will be naked. This way I can lube up and squeeze through. I was thinking you could come along and help push me through the bars. LOL . Remember without my wallet in my pants pocket she'll weigh in light .

Well we couldn't get it low enough so the rails need to be moved up for new shock and anti roll bar. He cut out the boxes he put in. Look what steve found living in the frame rail.

Darned critters! Great work. This is fun to watch come together.

This would have been easy with a 4 link. But he wants a leaf spring car. So far suppliers are to do the body and chassis are .

S&W race cars- A local shop that has been very helpful:
CM Cage with cage add on for 7 sec car.
Q-A1 CO shocks
CM Shoot mount and shoot
CM Steering column kit for rack and pinion
CM drive shaft loops 2
CM anti roll bar with torsion bar.
Many lengths and Dia of CM tubing to bend some of our own parts for the
chassis

AJE suspension:
Complete suspension for K member we had

Glasstek:
glass dash
Rear bumper
one piece nose
Doors
Trunk lid

Firm feel:
2 inch drop spindles

Strange:
Race brakes disc all 4 wheels

Summit racing:
315 MT drag radials

Competition engineering:
Door hinge kit
Door lever kit
Lexan window kit
One piece nose mount kit.

And the list is growing everyday. I believe the expensive parts are done for now . Its all the little tabs and fasteners now. Execpt for the Sanders bead locks and front wheels. $3,000 + I may have to start selling some things. The wife is getting suspicious.

I got on the golf cart and made my way to the garage to get some JB weld . Steve is down there working at 10:30. I took some pictures of the progress. He is cutting and mocking up the rails.

Steve fitted the rails and we checked the ride height. The car is going to be really low but will still be adjustable front and rear to raise it 2 inches from this height. This will be its lowest height with its calculated weight. I inch for every 200 lbs. The sliders will also be adjustable in 1 inch increments. Soon the cage will getting tig welded in. This giant a-body car fixture works great. The body is held square and level for any type of fab work.

.....................................................

Maybe consider yoga pants. Lightweight and many don't have pockets.

I look at these pictures and I still can't believe no one wanted to save this car. This body has been here since 1993 and I offered it several times on this site. The body was perfect . That is all factory sheet metal. New quarters and floors would have cost more then the $1500 asking price. Its a shame cutting it up but I told my son he can do what he wants with it . He sold the Valiant for $700 and I gave him this body. I my days 140 mph 1/4 pass was super fast. Now these young guys need to go 200 in and 1/8 . Where does it end?

I'd love to have that car except........

I have 5 cars...
I have no more room...
Too late in life for me...
You guys are doing way better work than I could...

Please don't put some ugly hood scoop on it.
I like the look of old Super Stock cars

Amen to that, Brother!
My thoughts exactly.
I love this build, and especially like the pictures of the progress and the detailed descriptions.........

Steve welded the cross brace in the rear of the rails. There was 2x2 cross pieces tack welded in the front to hold everything square. They will be cout out after the rails are welded in the car. they will be replaced with CM tubing. I believe these three pieces are the only mild steel parts going in the car. Rails and rear cross member. Most of the bars will be custom bent or cut except for the main hoop and all will be Chrome moly. "CM"

I came in the house to watch "Street outlaws" I'll go back out and see how far he got. He is cleaning up the body to install the frame rails as one piece. This is a leaf spring car. Not like a 4-link that is adjustable so it has to be square and level .

I saw some wrecked race cars he repaired . He is a perfectionist at what he does.
