The crazy thing is the 2bbl I had on wasn't leaking and ran fine and that was just a carter I believe
Some carbs are just more sensitive to fuel pressure than others. Although Holley says to run them at 7 psi. from my experience they usually do ok until you hit about 8-8.5 psi then they start having problems with overflowing, although I had one that ran fine at 10 psi. Just the luck of the draw sometimes. Float level adjustment can affect it also. I always adjust the float levels after I install a new pump as a part of the fine tuning process.
