I'd swap the zerk for a flush type and get an adapter to standard (so you don't need to switch fittings on the grease gun just for these). For the tierod body clearance, it looks like (based on advertised tie rod specs) the taper may be 1.5"/foot (a common size reamer) and could be reamed to lower the inner tie rods into the center link a little deeper (talk to a machinist or mech engineer with parts in hand).
